I don't normally "hit" curb stops.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying.
Your statement infers you've hit at least one, as have many others, and likely came to an abrupt stop. Wouldn't it have been a piss-off, if the engine had shifted that tiny bit you got, and twisted a hole into your rad..??
A rubber mounted engine can definately move forward with inertia, and depending on the mounts coindition, it could certainly, and
has caused interference with a rad mounted so close to the fan. I've seen the impressions of such many times, (reason unknown) and amazed they don't leak..lol

Many cars, particularly imports had/have engine movement limiters..
