71 Duster 360 (new project)

well...had almost a month off ....it never ends..

Got the new slicks on the demon...switch to 10 x 29 x 15 Hoosiers, had 10.5 x 29.5 MT previously, the Hoosiers are a tab smaller in diameter also..29.2 down from the MT 29.9, should help with the conservative gearing in the car.. Also change from gas back to E85 on the car with the same 750 VS car...this ought to be interesting ...Friday night test n tune...

dam...just remember I forgot to switch out the air bleeds....it is hell getting old...

The 71 Duster is getting an update in the ignition, going from the msd 6al to msd 7al-3 along with a new coil...probably run the same...just like the cam change...LOL...
 
should have bought a set at the track.... they mount them and balance them right there. Think I noted the bald spot on the right when the M/T guy was tattling on you LOL!

....and the tequila scented cologne you provided was noted by a few. :)

But I would not have gotten to use my HF tire changer and HF bubble balancer....gotta get my money worth out of them...lol
 
got the circus loaded up and ready for the weekend? thinking about coming up for Saturday.
 
Well...not yet...but everything is about ready....I think I just need to fill them up with e85...and check the oil...lol

Worked two night shifts this week..then two day shifts...and have to come back tonight after working today....

I think the girls want to go to the Friday night TnT also...so after I get out of bed Friday mid morning I will start load up ....
 
One duster and One demon loaded on trailers.....thought i would get a head start loading cars since I have to work tonight...again

weather has been warm the last couple of day...hit 90

cools into mid 70 for weekend....
 
Due to high winds on Saturday, after the morning TNT, the bracket race was shorten to 1/8 mile...how boring...
 
anybody do any good? I skipped out for yard work. figured it might be the last weekend before the six month oven.
 
Sunday was 1/4 again...

nawh...has some issues with cars....Dart trans would not hold with transbrake...she footbraked and broke out on sunday...and did not run the dial in on Saturday...

Duster was a victim of .005 red light on Saturday..and Sunday the other driver .003 light kind of sealed the deal....and she broke by .004 trying to catch them...

my demon ended up on the trailer and the car started to shimming doing down the track on Saturday...and began leaking trans fluid..So Sunday I rolled out the yellow duster and proceeded to kill the guy on the tree by a tenth...and then brake out by .08 on the brakes...I guess the car decided to run it best so on that run.

so we are in the processes of redoing the 904 in the dart...been about 5 years now..last time trans was out of car was went it broke the rear yoke on the driveshaft...and demon will get a trans overhaul to follow as it too has not been out of car since it broke rear yoke on driveshalf at MATS a few years ago.....but will miss the next race due to upgrade in front end with a hemi denny coil over shock kit...

and I thought I had some time to work on other things.....

That's all we get to run down here in the southeast lol. Even Bristol's bracket program is 1/8 mile. There isn't many 1/4 mile dragstrips around me. Bristol is the nearest and then you have Atlanta. All the rest are 1/8 mile.
 
904 for dart is done and engine/trans sitting between the frame rails need to hook things up...

had one problem again with pump bushing...last year I bought about 5 or 6 pump bushing at one time with a order of other 904 parts...the bushing are so tight i can not get the converter to go in....this is the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened..had to remove pump and change out bushing.....made sure the converter fit the bushing before installing the pump back in the trans........

well...all is well..i hope....changed out converters..took old TA 4200 series converter replaced with newer TA 4400 SMXXX.....must be better with triple *** rating...

Finished up the upgrade ignition on the Duster...MSD 7al-3 with new coil...and 8 new spark plugs....actually narrowed the plug gap to .030...seems to be somewhat the ticket with E85.....

Got a couple hours of work in morning on Dart to get the rest of the 904 hook up...need to get it back up in the air and put starter on..connect shifter linkage..driveshaft...and tighten the trans cross member...live is good went you can do that work standing up..

Got everything hooked up...just need to change oil..adjust valves and put tranny fluid in it....and tighten headers....plus with the car up in the air I took the high pressure washer and washed the undercarriage of the car..

we got a tnt friday night...and again saturday morning before they run the bracket race..I have to work friday night...saturday and maybe sunday night if needed...Contractor putting new sewer and storm drain in on a busy blvd...weekend marathon...
 
yeah..someone has too...but not me..just watching other people work...
 
well....that 904 rebuild did not go as plan...had no forward gears...reverse worked great...lol

we pulled it back out...went thru the rear clutch pac again...could not find anything wrong but i changed out the lip seals again as the new ones i have a smaller lip then the one i took out...still had a few of the older seals...put it all back together and air test everything like last time....
One other thing ....after starting a couple of times...the engine would not turn over...like the neutral safety switch was screwed up..what i found was the shift lever that bolts on to the valve body...had some play in it...i corrected that....but i was wondering if the trans was between gears...so...going to finish up ...need to get dipstick and fluid back in it..
 
Transmission Shop is closed, Body Shop now open. Unlike me, since I get prettier everyday, this is going to get uglier before it gets prettier.
