69 Dart Swinger Missing!

-
So, as you can see from above I had been on the hunt for this car for 2.5 years. Newspaper ads, wanted posters in every coffee shop, parts store, grocery store for miles. I did a ton of door knocking as well. As you all know the Mopar group is pretty tight. If there is a guy within 20 miles of here with a decent collector mopar, chances are I know him. Anyway, I got the names of a few guys further North with Darts, so I proceeded to contact them and tell them my story. I met several great Mopar guys, but still came up short.

When my resources locally were exhausted I turned to the internet. That's when I found FABO. I posted this thread as a "newbie" over two years ago with the VIN. I had all but given up on the Dart. Then, two weeks ago today "WHAM". A brand new member with a PM, "I have your car"!! Naturally I was suspicious of a scam. We have all seen those attempts. "send me $1,000 and your social security number and I'll give you the car":banghead:

Anyway, I PM'd back and 20 minutes later we were on the phone chatting. He emailed me pics of the VIN plate, fender tag and build sheet!

Turns out, the guy in Illinois bought the car back in October of 2012 in the Montello Wisconsin area. That explains why my efforts locally did nothing.

The Illinois owner put a ton of blood, sweat, tears and money into making the car what it is today. Then, when the car was complete he found out what a pain in the A$$ it is to title a car without a previous title. So....he googled searched the VIN. That's when my FABO post showed up in his google search. He read this post, ran out to his shop and discovered we had a car in common after double checking his VIN.

This guy was a class act! Honest, forthright and just a damn good guy. He didn't have to contact me, he could have demanded the title for peanuts. Instead, he read my post and put the car back where he thought it belonged.

This restores my faith in humanity. It's really a cool story

Pretty cool from all aspects. Nice car!

hope you paid the guy something for all his hard work. he could of just bonded the title and legally owned it. good for you kinda sucks for him if he got nil

i sold a truck to a guy here in calif with just a bill of sale , dmv had no issues with it . and of course dmv had no history on it do to the duration of time it had been out of there system . but to the point he had his insurance run the tittle and hey came back with names addresses for years back .

How many of those were made?

Why do you assume he didn't pay a fair price for it?

No need for negative comments.

The car wasn't scrapped and is still a numbers matching 340 4 speed with legit title second owner, or first if the original owner paid to get it back and still owns it. I'm second owner on my car. The original owner liked the car, a lot.
