How should i paint 65 barracuda grill?

My Copper "S" had a anodized silver one....Now that its body is silver, Im going to paint it argent, looks about the same color but without the pitting....metallic Silver would be too close to the body color. Just enough to make it look 'off'.
 
I never liked the original "body white" colored grill..... this is my flat BLACK one..... I think it complements the entire front end

Is there a way to repair a grill that has 1 small PC bent and one of the brackets broken off

I woul say the new JB Weld products woul be all you need. I believe they are made of pot metal so I would think a product for aluminum would work.
 
I was thinking about trying that. There is also one PC at the bottom that is bent. Is there away to straighten that
I can get a picture when I get home
 
I would be very careful work slow and support it well trying to straighten a piece as pot metal is easily broken.
 
Understood. May be better off leaving it as is. I believe though, like everything else, when you put new paint on it will make it look worse. I am to much of a perfectionist I guess. It will still be an old car when it is all said and done. Not expecting a show car, but really hope it will look good.
 
I didn't remember the PC being broken, it seems to be a simple repair if the jb weld will hold

That PC which is broken will easily go back in place. Should be an easy fix. Thanks for the advice
 
Cliff, I love the look of your Barracuda
is the grill painted semi gloss.
 
That orange magazine car would look much better blacking out that rad support. I have to admit that I have seen very few original paint 65's with body color grills. IMHO, you got 2 color choices: natural or a black and that probably depended on the body color, similar to the rad support paint. It was the dark body paint color or semigloss black for light colors. Those blacked out grills look invisible, need a little texture in there!
 
I've only seen a few 65, or 66:s where I live. I really do like the black on a light color car. My 65 was gold and so was the grill. I may have to try that if it will ever stop raining and warm up enough to finish painting

I was afraid someone would ask that... Now this was done like over 20 years ago... A local auto parts store where I was friends with the owner... Told me about this rattle can rubberized textured paint as I was looking for something to paint my lower rocker panels below the stainless rocker trim... Well... I was so pleased on how it came out... I used the leftover to paint my spare center grill piece as the other grill I had on the old cuda was White... I use to show my cuda with the white grill... As it was how it was Originally!!! I ended up liking how the Cuda looked with the "black" center... I gave up putting the white center grill on for judged shows!!! Now the white one just hangs on the wall

As for the black semigloss rubberized rattle can paint... I can't recall the brand or any other info... Just go ask an automotive paint store... It was just one of those products I used back then... Oh so many years ago... ⚓

I have successfully straightened the center grill sections, carefully in a vice and by hand. Just work it slowly. I also had one welded by a guy but he said to never bring it back as it was difficult. However, recently I discovered this product --> Pot Metal Repair

Watch their videos...pretty convincing!

Thanks for the information. The piece will go back into place very easy. Just have to find what will hold it together.
