I am putting on Shumacher headers and I want my exhaust to sound pretty tuff but not super loud/annoying...

383, stealth heads, shumachers, pretty stout cam, 750 carb, etc...

ALso, if you have a video of your exhaust sound I'd appreciate it...

How much power you putting out? That will determine tube size. From there it's all personal preference. Some guys like the chambered flowmaster deep sound. Some guys prefer the raspy straight through sound, and others prefer the glass pack whop sound.

I just put one of those summit dual exhaust kits on my 68 and it worked out great. It came with a bunch of clamps but I would plan on welding everything. My car sounds better than ever. Its just a 318 with manifolds but it has a nice rumble but is non annoying, fairly quiet actually, driving down the road.

I like Flowmaster's deep rich sound. I'd recommend 3 chamber for your ride.

I'm building a OE numbers 383 GTS and I just got the Factory Head pipes and Tail pipes from Don's Custom Exhaust in Ohio. They are 2 1/4 pipes which is alright for me since I needed to use the stock heads and ex manifolds. I did use a much better camshaft and made some other rather Stealth upgrades also. I just looked up the correct size mufflers for it and decided to go with the Dynomax Ultra Flow #17512. Still need to procure the correct tail tips tho. Will install all this this week sometime. I'll post an audio of it then.

Same here on a 440, Highly recommend the schumacher ball pipe for the header and a x or h pipe to smooth out the exhaust, that is my next thing to do.

i just bought a pair of these (see below). was told they are nice and quiet inside the car, have a nice deep tone and get loud but not obnoxious when really in it. plus they make the proper size case for an abody..

ordered them from pete at bergman auto craft. got here fast.

haven't put them on yet but he insists i'll love them.. they are straight through design too. not a chambered muffler..

I hope you stay with the 2 1/2 exhaust, Just to let you know I do not use an "H" or "X" pipe and still had my car run 12.00 flat with mufllers. Made my own exhaust from a pipe kit from Summit, wanted to keep the heat away from the transmission as much as I could..

3" TTI xpipe with Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. Sounds amazing on the car i love Hooker mufflers.

I happen to like the Areo Chamber a lot. A chambered muffler I like. Turbo mufflers are also a good sound. There close in sound.
The striaght through Hooker/Dyno Max Max Flo mufflers are OK. Raspy in sound.
Hate glass packs!

I have used the Jegs exhaust system @ 2-1/2. Turbo muffler, mandrel bends, light trimming at the bumper. Very good fit, easy to assemble. True dual exhaust system. Deep but mello-ish sound on a small block. Not wimpy. Open throttle will put others on notice.

It is becoming an "Oldie video" these days. I did this a long time ago. Not to bad on interior sound. This is a '79, 318 with a small Crane Cam, Edel. Intake and a 600 Holley with Hooker headers and Jegs exhaust @ 2-1/2 inches. (Cold day!)

I used TTI with an H pipe and am very happy. I would have went X pipe but I have a GVOD and the X doesn't fit.

I wouldn't run flowmasters if they were giving them away for free. Tried them, hated them. I am running borlas. Car goes faster in the 1/4 with them and is quieter.

I just pulled a set of those off my 340! haha I had never heard of them before that. They were ok. They definitely weren't "quiet" inside the car. Every conversation you had to use your outside voice for sure. But overall not a bad muffler. I had measly 2-1/4 exhaust, so thats why the change. Going to full 3" with dynomax bullets.

Yeah I found that out after. The mufflers just had a part number on them and a quick google told me they were "xlerator" mufflers. Just never heard of them before.

I'm running an accurate system. The sound is just right

Generic Jegs with shumachers. Not horrible and the jegs mufflers are welded, not crimped like summits generic system

Same here! Sounds great just like the factory intended! Other than the 2 piece head pipes for serviceability it is stock.
