It fits behind the driver side kick panel, which is near the high beam switch.

You might want to do the electronic tach conversion before installing the can! I think Insturment specialties makes and sells it for $75! It converts the old resistor system to an electronic circuit board and it fits right in the can!

Now, about the location! If you take off the kick panel and look up the side of the inner structure, you will see a couple of dimples meant to locate the can! They are almost up under the dash, and makes the hookup to the wiring harness a plug and play! The hot 12v wire is on a short pigtail that plugs into a spade on the back of the fuse box! This picture shows my can, mounted about 2" above the top of the kick panel!

I wish I had more wiring all I have is in the photo so I have to make a harness

I have thought of getting the electronic guts it was hard enough trying to find the can. I had even thought of taking a altoid / mint can and putting the new guts in it. Luckily or un-luckily I did find myself the correct can and even what I believe would be a almost correct date code being dec of 65 for my 66 car. I will make a harness and wire the bad boy up to the parts I got from ssvdp.

Those tachs, SW or not, are pitiful performers. They look great and are worth $$$ but are slow to respond and are mounted down by your left knee where you can barely see them. They dont work with aftermarket ignitions but the bezel can be back filled with a Sun "Super Tach 2" just get yourself some flat black paint and spray mask the Sun writing on the bottom. Whats in the can anyway? I sold my setup years ago, Ehrenberg was selling his can at the same time.
