Help... Vin #'s dont match

if the vin on the dash is not listed as stolen, I would never ever worry for 1 second. has anyone here ever ever had a cop look around their car for other vins ? I have been driving a duster fast and loud in mass. since 1977, have had MANY side of the road police visits, and never ever have they checked any vin
