i need a source for the connecting stud for my manifolds. 5/16 on one end and 1/4 on the other to connect the intake and exhaust manifolds together

Thank you for all replies

If I am understanding you correctly, the factory stud's for /6 engine's were 5/16" on both side's of the stud's, only being on the head side the thread's were 5/16 x18 coarse thread, and the other end of the stud is fine thread 5/16 x 24. I know someone may have some used one's here on this site, but also do a search for these stud's here, as I have read some info on where guy's are saying who carry's them stud's too. Good Luck!

Mcmaster Carr course to fine adapting studs. I'm sure they get them from somewhere else, but I'm not sure who that vendor would be

I'm sorry for not being more clear - I do not need the studs that attach the manifolds to the head (have those - Ace Hardware is great!) I need the stud that attaches the manifolds together.

The exhaust manifold has a 5/16" stud that is threaded into it with 1/4" threads on the end that goes into the exhaust manifold. No threads where it goes through the intake manifold and then has 5/16 threads and a nut on top. The diameter is important to hold it securely. 1/4" bolt would not really work.

My other option is to take a 5/16s bolt and cut the head off and have 1/4" threads put on the end.

Thought there may be a source out there. I can't be the first person to snap one off.

If anyone has one a PM would be appreciated.

Thank you to everyone for their replies.

that still doesn't sound right... I think my '75 has 3/8 for the center and 5/16 for the two long ones on the side. What year is it on? I think older ones used 5/16, but the 1/4 inch thread sounds pretty wimpy. Could you tap it to 5/16?

Tapping into the manifold scares me - just found a used one - the old one was cracked

Same stud threads on old and new - '74

New one did not have stud and old one snapped off

This back bolt rusts/corrodes out all the time. Tapping in the cast iron is Ok, just take it a bit at a time, and tap it dry.

On mine the back bolt was all corroded off at the exhaust manifold, so IIRC, I carefully drilled out remaining bolt part in the ex manifold and installed an insert' I stayed with 1/4" I think and just used a 1/4" bolt cut and threaded to fit, and slathered it with anti-sieze. See below as to why that back bolt diameter does not matter all that much in the field.

I only snugged these 3 bolts down until the manifolds were snugged pretty well up to the heads so that the manifolds could float a bit as the head studs were torque down; that is the way it should be done anyhow. Watch the torque on those bolts; it is not all that high, like maybe 8 or 10 ft lbs.

Really? All the clowns we have on this site and nobody pops up and says, "Here I am!"

Thanks for the replies. It is 5/16 on the small end and 3/8 on the other.

I made one from a bolt that I cut the head off of and turned down and put threads on with a die.

Works, but there has to be a source for these somewhere
