I was 2 tenths off my normally crappy 60ft. I was 3 to 5 tenths off my 1/4 mile. And at least 2 or 3 miles per hour off my top speed ? What the heck!?
It was hot (90°) and steady head wind. The duster is a brick. I don't know ?
I'll start with a compression check tomorrow.
 
weather plays a part for sure. Heat, humidity, and a breeze all contribute. 5 tenths is a little extreme, but 2 - 3 tenths is typical from great conditions to poor conditions.
 
What adjustments did you make to carb/ignition to compensate for the weather? If you made none and it was a lot hotter/more humid it is going to slow down a lot.
p.s. at least you got to go to the track. We are rained out all weekend....
 
Bingo! I checked between last night and last week and this has got to be it. I was pretty much right on my time last week maybe a little worse but not that bad as last night and I even checked the time slip from the refrigerator course that's always my best one from back in April. And it seems when I use that calculator everything a checks out correctly. Last night I should have done at 11.6 not an 11.9 according to the calculator which is now a permanent icon on my phone right underneath the for a bodies only icon. Thank you ...

Looks like you had traction problems to lose 2 tenths in the 60 ft. From good air to bad air I usually don't slow down but a little over a tenth in the 1/8.
 
A few weeks ago...we had the 71 fuster out...and it had slowed a bit...60 ft were at 1.51 instead of 1.44...and et was off a good tenth....mph was pretty good...but we had a small tail wind..

I had just change a few things..like msd 6 to 7..new plugs...cap ..rotor...and changed carbs....but still ran the same.....someone said the air was at 5400...got my old TAG out and yeah.....Gpt the time slips out from April...and may..plugged them into the DA calculator..and corrected they were within a few hundreds of each other....
 
You bring up a great Point here because this is what this season's been all about for me is learning to to know what I have not just spend money. I've been trying to make timing and jetting adjustments to the motor as well as suspension adjustments and two step adjustments. This may be a good Time to give advice on how to jet or time for certain conditions or which way to turn for certain conditions? Thank you....

As a general rule, as in a rule of thumb, not etched in stone...as the CORRECTED DA goes up by 2000 feet, you can go 1 range hotter plug, add 3-4 degrees of timing and go down 2 sizes in main jet. For 1000 foot moves I usually just add timing.

If your base tune up is close, this works pretty well. If you are on the fat side of max HP, you will see bigger losses in ET and MPH with lower weather changes. In other words, if you are running rich and your CORRECTED DA was say, 500 feet (I've seen conditions at DP go 600-700 feet BELOW sea level) and you show up and it's 2000 feet, you will have to make some big moves to keep up with the power loss.

No matter what, when the DA goes up, you will lose power. The trick is to not lose as much power. Kinsler used to have a bunch of math posted on that web site for the nerds among us.

Most guys now have weather stations that tell them how much to move the throttle stop to compensate for DA changes.

I wanted to TNT this last weekend but it was supposed to be 101 and I think it ended up being about 97. There was no way I was going to purposely go out into that heat.
 
I just love it when guys that live at sea level or close to it give me crap about why my car is so slow..... Our average DA is usually 4000 ft. 12.40s up here gets into the 11s real quick in better air.... 280/480 hydraulic with de-burred 452 iron I'm happy!
 
Well I can definitely see where you're coming from. My son will be taking the car in probably a little over a year to Colorado and he's not expecting to do as well there by a long shot.
