Home schoolers...

take a minute and knock on the door, talk to the parents..that way you will not get an idea, you will get the entire picture...
I have spoken with the folks at the fence a few times. Just like the wife and I they moved out this way to avoid folks. In the 8 years we have been hear, other than Grandpa showing up they have only had visitors a few times. When we get a ln unknown vehicle in our 'hood it is a big deal lol...the dad told us that they were socializing with another neighbor but felt that by inviting this neighbor over that their "space" was being violated...they have severed ties with this neighbor. I feel that this "privacy" should be respected...
I generally don't reply to these types of threads because things go South in a hurry.... But......
Social skills aren't just taught in school. Churches, Parks, neighborhoods, and family get togethers, are amoung the few places this is taught.
1). Some parents home school because a special needs child isn't getting the special needs
2). Some parents home school because the public system is funded by the government and therefore the learning material is politically motivated, like global warming was twisted to expand a political agenda. Or, regardless of religious beliefs, you have to accept every lifestyle without opinion. this is just a couple of examples of a huge list. Some parents feel they should stick to reading, writing, arithmetic, and shop type classes.
3). Some parents home school because the child is attracted to a group of kids that bring trouble and habits that will effect the life of the child
Here are just a few reasons why, whether agreed with or not.
Oh, I think on SAT tests, home schooled kids scored higher???? not for sure, but I believe to be the case. In any case, one example is not the way to look at a hole picture. Home schooling is done with great success throughout this country

Thanks for your input...
