What if the parents aren't qualified to teach??? The kids can't be smarter than the person teaching them... If the parents are idiots, then the kids will be also....
The "qualifications" to teach are pretty low even in public schools. From what I understand there are workbooks and State requirements to homeschool. It is not just as easy as pulling your kid from school and dusting off the encyclopedias.
A friend of ours from church home schools her 4 kids and takes it very seriously. She has set up HS networks and the kids are very social. She is also law school graduate and their household income is probably near $200k. For most, home schooling is a sacrifice that most low wage earners and power couples are not willing to take but are definitely willing to scrutinize.
If I did not like our local school so much I would consider it as an option.
