I'm considering removing the A/C heater box out of my 68 Dart. I never use the heater as the car is just a fair weather hot rod and the A/C components are loooong gone.

Can I remove the box under the dash and cap the hole for the PS fresh air vent, heater motor, heater hoses, AC lines, etc??? Has anyone done this? What else in involved?

I just figure why have all that junk behind the dash if it's not being used.

Sure. You might consider keeping the vent workable. I think I saw a thread on here where someone mounted the wrong side vent box on the pass side. I'm going to mount a cut - down Mustang vent in my left side, to provide more room

Here it is mocked up. The old 'Stang boxes have a cable operated butterfly

This is what a 'stang vent starts out as

Just happened to find, here's one thread on "heater delete" vent box

Heater Delete VENT?

I just did this to mine last week. The link that 67Dart273 has put up on Heater Delete VENT? has alot of good info. Just keep in mind if you want to replace the heater with a heater from a non A/C car the firewalls are different and will not be a direct bolt on. Therefore, I am keeping all my parts. Just FYI before you sell or through anything out. It sure makes for a lot of leg room!!

Thanks guys. I'll definitely keep the parts I take out. I just figure I may as well do some demo since all parts or inoperative anyway. I may cut the fresh air vent portion off the AC box and patch the side to use the vent box. I'll post up some pics if it works. If it doesn't, well, I may post some pictures anyway. lol

951mopar- Totally unrelated- I notice you're from Joshua Tree, CA. I just saw an episode of some Huell Howser show on PBS on Joshua Tree NP this morning. Lots of cool facts about those trees. Pretty damn cool!

The cutting of the fresh air box is a good idea. Joshua tree is pretty cool. No street light beatiful evenings.

Non ac heater box wont fit? How did the factory do it, move the firewall opening on ac cars?

I did a some reason after removing everything. I was going to buy a non a/c box to replace and they are different. The heater cores are not the same.

I think it depends on the year of the car, but the firewall is most definately different for some years. You can actually buy repop patch / conversion panels

For those of you who have eliminated the heater box on your A/C car, how did you cover the holes on the firewall? Do you have any pictures by chance???

I can't speak for AC cars mine was "non." But I simply cut sheet metal and put them inside the car drilling through the original screw holes. This was for sandblasting/ painting the car

I am dealing with the same issue. Heat/a/c has been removed. I don't want to patch so to speak. Upon looking into 3D printing I keep getting pointed in different directions. Researched rubber grommets and they guy quoted $800 for the tooling alone. Of all the grommets out there it seems nothing fits closely. It would be nice to have a body plug to pop in on these 2 holes.
That said, I am left with 2 options. I bought "Versamold" online to "make your own" as seen on "Gearz" I have yet to try it. Or, bought some large size grommets from big rig websites for some type of truck parking lights. They are somewhat flexible but you have to cut in the middle and remove material to fit, then I used super glue for rubber to mate the ends together. I have done the heater section and somewhat pleased as an alternative to patching it. They are about 6-10 dollars each and through trial and error I went through a couple pieces. I am down to one piece to modify for the a/c hole.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Quite reasonable too.
A guy provided a valid tip. If we can find a slightly bigger grommet then we could dremel the opening to fit the grommet. I did buy an Acura A/C delete firewall plug which is too big for our A/C opening. I might dremel it like he said. Makes sense

I ordered these today: ORDER: DMT MOPAR 63 66 A & 62 65 B Oval Plastic Body Plug Firewall Plug Auto. This is close second and I will let you know how it works. I am done buying these!

The above DMT plastic plug is a very close fit for the A/C opening. I am going to make a patch for the rear of the opening and make as precise hole as I can for a firm fit.
