does anybody have one on his Dart? I am thinking of one to carry all my stuff to race Weekends. And I refuse to trailor my car so I want to put a small trailor behind my 72 Dart.

So, did the factory something back in the days or some supplier nowadays?

Any idea?

I have a 1970 owners manual, and in there is a diagram for building a hitch in it for the duster. Someone must have a dart manual that they can scan for you.

I have a factory one on my 74. It mounts under the bumper with two bolts then in the back of the spare well with two more. Get coil overs shocks in the back like the factory tow package. They actually help with the handling at least with mine!

I contacted the local u-haul , they were no help. I found a used hitch for a mid sized car on Craiglist, and modified it to fit. Probably overbuilt for what I am using for, but non-the-less, I figured multiple attachment points, all the more safe.
I think you could build or modify one in a few hours that would serve you well.

I will try to get some for you was kind of hard to find it. Fell over it in the for sale ads a while ago from all people PLY, never had a isuue with him! Pretty easy to make one I would think, I would not put a ton of tong weight on it though all the strength is from the bumper.

If I was to put a hitch on mine, I would want a receiver. You don't HAVE to use a 2", there are / is smaller one(s) for smaller cars. That way you can minimize the thing when not in use.

There WAS hitches made for these cars by people like "Valley" and others, "back in the day"

they did/do make smaller 1 1/4 receivers for the jeep cherokee's as well. (class 1 I believe)
I personally would rather have the 2" just because I have a plethora of them for my pick up with different size balls.

One of my Dusters had a draw tight hitch for on it. Nice Fit!

Here's a picture from a 69 Dart owner's manual....

My 1970 Dart came with a tow package! It had a slant six with an 8 & 3/4! All factory. I don't think many a bodies came with a slant six AND the 8 & 3/4

I fabbed up one in about 1 1/2 hrs. Towed loaded ski boats over the "Coquahalla"., no probs.

Great tow car.. air shocks as listed in the factory options, a consideration depending on what load ..

I'm pretty sure my duster had the towing package at some point ;)

Here's a picture of one. Not sure if it came from a thread on here of from eBay. I would suggest subframe connectors and torque boxes if you're planning on towing anything all that heavy....

I just used a tongue hitch, no receiver, it was 1/3 the size/weight of that

And coming back from the Okanagan, we LOADED that boat with fruit for the return trip.. The car had 4 people and the camping gear.. lol . oh and a German Shephard.

Judicious use of 10 inch drums,, no probs..

Woods74 has one on his car, he built it from scratch if i recall. i'll see if i can find the pics

I spread the U on this one to match the factory bolt locations and then made the front support from angle iron to bolt to the frame rails.

When I purchased my 73 Dart Sport to restore, it had a custom hitch on it. Very heavy duty, bolted to the frame rails and bumper supports. I removed it and it's taking up space in the garage. if you lived near Gloucester, VA, you could have it if you pick it up.

If you think this is a good design, could you take a photo, and maybe a simple drawing with bolt centers, etc?

Raining today but I'll see what I can do over the next couple of days.

here's the best I could do on photos and measurements. kinda crude but hope it helps.
