Not a huge deal, but I FINALLY found a true replica of the wagon tailpipe...different from sedan as it has right side exit just before bumper. The side exit was obviously to help avoid fumes being drawn up through the open window of the tailgate. I recall the position of the exhaust pipe from my father's original '66 wagon while growing up and knew it was wrong on my '66 wagon. This past weekend, I had the right pipe installed (found at Accurate Exhaust) and I can honestly say I notice less fumes...not to mention enjoy knowing it is right.

I thought other Valiant & Dart wagon owners might find useful.

Thanks!

Very interesting, when I bought my Valiant Station it had a straight pipe and You couldn't drive with open backwindow because of the fumes...

But then I thought it was stock.
Last year we changed the direction of the last part of the exhaust - exactly like shown above - but we didn't know that there existed such an exhaust as factory equipment.
We did it obviously right - instinctively...and it works.
Thanks for the 'confirmation'.

Little known fact. These old XJ6 Jaguars originally had straight out tailpipes.

Jaguar curved them towards the outside of the body when it was discovered that the prototype cars sucked exhaust fumes into the cabin if the rear windows were down.

couldn't a local exhaust shop have made a tail pipe up like that? i'll be an older shop still has the books that have the measurements for that pipe. they should be able to easily bend one up.

Yes, if you can find a shop that still does it & has data. As it was I had to travel 40 miles to find one that was not a Midas or other with strict rules on installing "customer brought parts". Plus, I was glad to find the correct pipe given the car is 90% survivor.

Gorky, I always wondered why Jags had those tailpipes...interesting.

Good to see Accurate is making the correct tail pipes. The previous owner of my wagon installed a dual exhaust with Flowmasters. Although it sounds and flows great, the fumes come in with the window down. Think I'll show an exhaust shop how the exits are supposed to be and have them redone.

Take pics. A "correct duals" version would be neat to see

Thanks for sharing! That is just what I need for my wagon. Does Accurate still have them? How much are they?

They should. I believe it was about $120. Hope it works out for your wagon.

That's the way I plan to do my wagon's exhaust!

i went online and found an outfit that would do me a stock, 2-1/4" system. can't remember the name, but i found a mom-and-pop exhaust shop that would do the job for much cheaper.
when possible, i prefer to source items like this locally. that's how us folks without deep pockets used to do it as opposed to relying on the boutique online shops.
