Is there a way to tighten the mirror on a 2 post mirror. The mirror itself looks good, but the mirror is a little loose.
Thanks

Is it the glass itself or the housing the glass sits in?

I don't have a current picture. I'm at work, 1 of my 2 days this week. The glass is fine, it is where the base and the part that holds the mirror go together. I can post a picture tonight. If you look at a picture of a 2 post mirror from the time frame of my 65 Barracuda they all seem to be the same, I think. My Formula S didn't come with the drivers side mirror

Generally speaking, once the mirror head starts becoming loose, it's a real bear to fix and the fix might not even last. Once the mirror is removed, you should be able to see a flat plate riveted to the mirror head by way of built in rivets on the head. Underneath this plate is a ball stud, which the stud part goes through the mirror head and is attached by splines into the top of the twin post. The friction between the ball and the plate is what keeps the mirror head from being loose. If you remove the plate by grinding the built in rivets, you then have no easy way of attaching the plate tighter to the ball. Possibly one could drill and tap a small hole in each rivet and use a machine screw to secure the plate. I tried this with a junk mirror and didn't have much success.

This is a new one I see on ebay. I think it is the same

I did a search for "mopar twin post mirror" and most of what I saw were repros (probably made in good ol' China. I saw one that it's probably OEM as it had the Pentastar on the back of the mirror head. Mitchell had one for $500 - ouch! Guess I gave the NOS I had away!

My car didn't come with one, but I thought I would add one. Maybe it doesn't need one after all. I just felt that it would add a safety aspect. I have the doors off the car and can see inside they were not drilled for a mirror. Thanks for the help

yea, the outside mirror was optional as was a lot of other stuff that became standard equipment.

A member here showed me a amazing trick . put some super glue on the ball set your mirror and walk away . The super glue coats the ball and makes it large enough that you can adjust the mirror for about three to four months . then just reapply . Its clear and really tightens things up .

Hope this helps

That mirror looks the same as my 66 Polara. Ball into mirror head. It's nice if you are looking for something the size of a flea while driving, never did me any good. I had mine on for looks.

I guess I was thinking of safety when changing lanes on the highway, but realistically, how many times will I be on the highway, to a car show maybe. The car didn't come with one, I may just leave it off as well.

I drive my car all the time, but I know how to turn my head to see what's next to me. I have a crappy hole so mine vibrates loose, otherwise it's on. If you're into stock, more points for not having it.

I did the super glue trick too. I took it off and put it glass down so gravity would help. Helped it a lot.

I have used superglue for this also. worked, not saying that it might not need gluing back again!???? maybe??? $500 nos mirror? hahahahahahahhahaha

All of my other cars have mirrors and I am use to having those on the car. I was sitting in mine doing some work and it just seemed strange to not have one.
Not sure why I thought of that being the doors were not on my car either.

Once you retire you may hear yourself say anything. I found it is better to be quiet around my 2 sons. They love to catch dad say or do something dumb like that.
