I have a 68 Dart with a newly rebuilt 72 340. I have noticed blue smoke coming from the exhaust when I get on it and when I lift. I checked my plugs and there is oil in the threads and on the washer. The smoke does seem to come and go. I'll notice it while idling at a one red light but not at the next. The car runs really strong. The engine has 10.5 to 1 pistons, 2.02 valves, air gap, 650 carb, headers, etc... Am I hurting anything running it? Should I park it? I am a beginner, this is my first project. Her are some pics of the plugs.

short answer - oil. Big question, why? Google your thread title and read away..
oh, your probably not hurting anything so to speak - but you shouldn't allow it to continue either - it'll only get worse

I wonder if I should get some break-in oil and go through that process again. Thanks for the reply.

how many miles on the car since rebuild? maybe check some fasteners? intake bolts for sure.. also, is the PCV working?

I put about 100 miles on it so far. I had a few leaks around the valve covers. I tightened the down and it stopped. I haven't checked the intake bolts. It has a new plastic PCV hooked up to the carb. The breather on the other valve cover is not hooked up to anything.

your are probably sucking oil from somewhere like the intake manifold ...valve guides or seals pushrod tubes if equipped or the pcv .

I checked the intake bolts. They weren't cranked tight, but I wouldn't call them loose. I was able to tighten all of them a little. The breather has no oil on it or in in it anywhere. The PCV is pretty clean. It just has a small oil stain on it.

Engines take anywhere from 1K to 3Kmiles to properly break in. Give it time.
