Wheel bearing bad off the shelf?

-
Wow. This went sideways. Sounds to me like this thread should have been started at a Dodge Magnum or LX forum. Can't fault the members here for not knowing the complete, correct installation procedure for a '07 Magnum wheel bearing hub assembly. This is an A-body forum and they have a completely different procedure. Perhaps this is a common problem with LX's? That's the sort of thing that you would find out at an LX or magnum forum that you won't get here. I will happily admit I have NO idea how a proper installation of a '07 Magnum hub assembly should go. And I don't care, and I'm not going to look it up either.

And even if there are LX experts here, you're not really giving us much to work with. If the installation is 100% correct, nothing is damaged, and everything else is perfect as you've suggested, the bearing has to be the issue. That's the only logical conclusion if nothing else can possibly be wrong. So buy better bearings and do it again. Given the odds on multiple bearings being fubar'd right off the shelf, my bet would be that something else is going on. Sure, it's possible the bearings are junk right off the shelf, but as has already been pointed out it's not likely. It's possible I'll win the PowerBall, but I'm not going to quit my job before the numbers are drawn because it sure as heck isn't likely.

Maybe there's damaged parts in the assembly that aren't allowing for proper installation of the bearings, maybe it's an installation problem, maybe the noise is something else entirely. But it's an '07 magnum, so, I don't really know or care. Good luck.

Can you hear the noise if you rotate the unit bearing by hand or just when driving? Did you feel any roughness in bearing after removal?
The first one felt like the bearing race was pitted. After I spun it by hand, I replaced it with this new one and it makes the same sound but I haven't spun it by hand yet. I'm gonna check it out tonight.

Looks like everyone is in an argumentative mood today. Does anyone know how to block people from commenting on your post? Also, for the guy who apparently is so deeply offended by another member asking a simple question. Your choosing to be upset because this isn't about an A body. All you had to do was give any insight into the original question. The question was not about installation or other problem causes. It was about wheel bearing hub assemblies being bad off the shelf.

Now, does anyone else have anything negative to add? Because honestly I thought we were a bunch of grownups. Apparently some us still like to believe we are children and hide behind a keyboard and talk ****. If this question is too complicated for anyone to understand or have no experience with something like this happening, or are offended because this isn't about an A body, then just don't reply. I'm not playing the last word bullshit game with anyone, so I'll just say I'm done acknowledging those who are being negative.

THIS THREAD - :bs_flag:

Moderator please.

Move to trash bin, Not even A-body related.

whats this website?

:eek::rolleyes:

i am embarrassed though i overlooked the 07' magnum part. :wtf:

Look, I'm just being honest. Maybe a little colorful, but honest. I don't know anything about '07 Magnums. Had you said that's what you were working on first, I wouldn't even have commented on this thread. The newest car I own is a '74. I'm not offended that you posted here, but I suggested posting at other websites actually related to your car because truly, you would get better information there. I wouldn't ask for help on my '71 F100 here, just like I wouldn't ask for help on my '74 Duster over at the Ford truck forum. Some of the same principles apply sure, but they're totally different applications. As is the LX platform, and there are plenty of LX forums.

As for the rest of it, if you're so positive that nothing can possibly be wrong with your installation or anything else, you don't need this thread. You already have the only possible answer, it has to be the bearings. There is no other explanation possible if you're unwilling to accept that it could be something else, even if it's highly unlikely you received multiple sets of bad bearings. I for one am willing to accept that if I can't figure out a problem it's possible I screwed something up. Mistakes happen. If you aren't willing to accept that possibility, there's really no point asking the internet for help. Because most of us are going to go with the obvious- it's very unlikely you got multiple bad bearings, so, it has to be something else. Bad installation, damaged hubs, wrong noise, something. So you shouldn't expect to receive dozens of replies confirming you got bad bearings. It's not likely. Possible sure, but not likely.

Don't worry, I'm unsubscribing from this thread. There's nothing I can add, and no reason to try and help anymore.

Yes please. Delete this thread so these unhelpful.comments can be ridden of and I can start another that's actually helpful. And yes. I did state that it was an 07 magnum I was working on. Your ignorance surpasses you.

Good grief. I can't even finish editing and unsubscribing. :drama:

Here's your first post. It says nothing about an '07 magnum.

So, long story short. I get the whirring sound of a bad wheel bearing and I know it's in the front end. So I buy both if them because it sounds like both sides are making noise. I replace the passenger side and the other side is still making noise. I replace the drivers side the next weekend and it's still making noise, but the noise seems to be coming from the passenger side. So I warranty the passenger side bearing and install the new one and it's still making noise! When I turn left the noise gets very quiet and almost gone. When I turn right the sound gets louder. So my question is. Is it possible to be having bad wheel bearings off the shelf? It's getting hard to narrow this down the sound went away seems like on the drivers side. Should I just get the really expensive bearings and see if that fixes my problem? I'm using masterpro O'Reilly house brand parts. I've never had an issue before until now.

I think you need to pay attention to your own thread. You don't mention it till your second post. AFTER 72bluBblu already commented. So who's ignorance surpasses who's?

And there's been lots of help in here. The most unhelpful thing I have seen so far is your attitude. People suggest grease, and checking to make sure its the wheel bearing making the noise. You respond with attitude. Multiple people have suggested stuff. Have you tried any of it? Not that I see. How about you try some of the "helpful" suggestions and see where it gets you.

Also maybe drop the attitude. Fighting with two different members in only two pages is probably a record of some kind. Your attitude is the only thing holding you back here. If you're convinced its the bearings (again) and refuse to take our suggestions. Then just say so and try for a third time. You can waste your time, not ours.

I love watching how wrong the three of you are. Go back and actually read what was said. Yes there have been some helpful comments. And also if you would have read the whole thing I indeed said I would check it out tonight. Apparently reading wasn't taught to you in elementary school. Thank you for those of you with something helpful to share. Anyway, I've got everything I need here. Goodbye aggressors who claim to be victims. Peace.

And apparently comprehension wasn't taught in yours. Learn the difference between reading something and comprehending it.

Best of luck tonight. Sounds like you'll need it.

If you swap the front tires to the back,Or at least side-for-side, at least you could rule the tires out. I usually wait to change the wheel bearings until they sound like helicopters. Then there is no confusing things, because like, it's really loud, lol. And then it's not.

As you know, whirring by itself is not necessarily indicative of wheel bearings. But the loading, and unloading, as you describe, exacerbating,or alleviating, the noise is. So I, like you, would be similarly confused.
But as you also know, there is a CV joint at the wheel, and while they don't usually whir, I guess there could be a first time.
I've had to spend 15 to 20 minutes now and again cleaning stones out of sipes. As well,.......with pretty good results.
In order for an alignment to create that much noise the car would be nearly undriveable.
Some tire treads are just plain noisy, that way.
