Hello. I am a member here and I tried in vain to buy a '65 Barracuda from a very disreputable cretin named "Mike" who goes by the name "leisurehour" who says he lives in Bakersfield, Ca. . After 2 weeks of discussions on the phone and e-mails and text messages, I thought we were going to be ready to have the car inspected and then haggle on a price, but he didn't want to. He stumbled when I asked him for the following: his last name (which I STILL don't know), a copy of the title and his home address, so I can send an inspector to see this car. This car has an interior that must be mostly replaced (expensive) and not one drop of paint on the outside (a great paint job is very expensive!). He claims the car has 116,000 original miles, but with the shot interior, I'd say it has more like 216,000 miles. I called today, but he didn't answer his phone, which he did the last two times I called him, which is 9 am his time. I left a message in his voicemail telling him I needed to hear from him and to tell me whether we where still negotiating or not. He left a message after my 12:30 lunch break, so he knew I wouldn't be around to answer the phone. He told me that I was being NIT-PICKY about needing an inspection and to see a copy of the title, which anyone who has bought a used car knows to do, if they are acting in their own best interest, if they are being prudent. He told me that I was the one who stumbled and that some guy came around and he sold it to him, just like that, in ONE DAY! Bullshit. Beware of this joker. Btw, he feels that I was trying to get a $25,000. for $5,000. First of all, we didn't agree on nor did I offer him, $5,000. He was asking $7,000. for it initially. Secondly, his junker is NOT worth $25,000. If it was in concours condition, it would be worth about that much. I have other choice names for him, but I'll refrain. He is a liar, a fink, a welsher and a scumbag.

You have never lived in the San Joaquin Valley. The interiors in these cars were shot when they were 10 years old if they were parked outside, regardless of miles (often in 5). And, besides, miles is unimportant for a car that needs a resto.

As for the rest, it's common for a car that was also probably listed on the local Craig's List to sell in one day to somebody local. I've sold cars the day they were listed on Craig's.

You say it's a scam. What did you lose in the transaction?

I think he tried to scam me, but who knows. He could be trying to scam someone. The bottom line is, he welshed on our deal we were working on. I spent 2 weeks of my very spare time in my very busy life, to try to buy that damn car. I didn't "stumble" as he puts it, in trying pathetically to justify pulling the plug on the deal AFTER I asked him to see a COPY, NOT the original of the title and to get his address, so I could send a qualified inspection man there to assess it's condition thoroughly.

Some one can ATTEMPT to run a scam. No one necessarily will LOSE anything, not unless the scammer is successful in his scam.

So now we're calling people out AND calling them derogatory names in the public forums for not selling something because a deal wasn't finalized?

I didn't miss anything did I?
Wasn't it just a possible deal that didn't end happening after two weeks then a retaliation for the time wasted by accusing someone of being "a liar, a fink, a welsher and a scumbag" as well as a "scammer and thief" from the other thread because one thread on it wasn't enough?

So, you are warning us that this guy wouldn't sell you his car? Granted, there was some back and forth and no sale when you pressed him for documentation, but what's the problem? You are likely better off than if you bought the thing.

Interesting. I don't quite see how this man did anything but decide not to sell a car to you because you were annoying him. Of course, there might be some ulterior motive I am unaware of, being outside the situation.

Is this the one your referring to? Just pulled it up and still looks for sale.

1965 plymouth barracuda best offer or trade
THAT car looks super bizarre!

How about you quit being such a damn baby and move on to the next car? You should be able to find an early A-body in similar condition for a similar price local to you. Then, YOU can be the inspector.

In all honesty, if I was selling a $7,000 car that obviously needs a lot of work and someone from out of state wanted to send an "inspector" to my house, I'd be a bit on edge.

I think we're done here. No reason for us to bash the buyer here. He was just trying to buy a car and it didn't work out. No reason to bash the seller either. He had a car to sell and it's his choice who he wants to sell it to.
