I'm going to be ordering a Jeg's 2.5" exhaust system for my Barracuda and I'm unsure which mufflers to get. I think the "deep tone" is a Flowmaster style. The other mufflers don't have much info.

Does anyone have a sound clip from the regular mufflers? I found one of the deep tone on youtube. I'm mainly concerned with drone inside the car, but I want it to sound good.

Regular muffler kit: JEGS Performance Products 30500, JEGS Dual Exhaust Kits | JEGS Performance Products
Deep tone kit: JEGS Performance Products 30501K, JEGS Dual Exhaust Kits with Fabricated Welded Chambered Deep-Tone Mufflers | JEGS Performance Products

May have answered my own question. The jeg's site lists the muffler as a turbo style. Found this youtube clip of a Cuda with turbo mufflers.

I'll probably go with the turbo muffler as my last Flowmaster experience was very droney.

Pretty much any muffler will produce drone if the pipe tips are under the car body.

Jegs 2-1/2 exhaust system w/Hooker headers 1-5/8 tube on a stock '79, 318. Small Hyd. Crane cam, 218/226 (IIRC) .454/.480-112, LD4B, 600 cfm carb.
Cold day. Cold car.

Do they still make cherry bomb mufflers??

My dad's Cuda had a pair of cherry bombs from the early 80s....

Yes, mufflers & glass packs. Do a search and you'll find them!

Wouldn't cherry bombs and glass packs sound better on a classic V8??
An old timer told me that turbo mufflers are for tuners and new cars
......not sure if that is totally true

I have the regular mufflers that come with the kit on both of my cars. One has h pipe, one doesn't; no drone at all. Good quality exhaust kit.

The jegs turbo mufflers have that 80s pickup truck style resonaton or wrap out the tailpipes, I had that system on my 440 Dart and hated them. I would go with Mac mufflers or Flowmaster if they would sell you just the pipes. It would have more of a muscle car sound, but it's all personal prefference.

Adding in my Jeg's exhaust videos. Not sure if its the "deep tone" kit, but basically they are Flowmaster knock-offs.

I think he is on crack. Truly, the sound of each muffler, turbo, chambered, straight through style like a Dyno Max, Max Flow or a cherry bomb is unique like the drivers ear and taste.

Most "Tuner" cars I cross have a cherry bomb style type of glass pack. This maybe regional or just what I have bumped into because I do not pay any attention to tuners really.

The "Cherry Bomb" glass pack I personally can not stand. But one of my best buddies LOVES it to death. Why I don't know, but, that's what he likes so that's what he runs.

I don't assign a particular exhaust muffler to anybody, like glass pack to a tuner. Turbos to ..... Etc.

I've run all the above. For you, (or anyone really) the sound you like is largely dictated by the muffler, not solely, but largely. So when you find that sound, follow that car and start asking questions and take a look under it.

OH! I ran Thrush turbo mufflers back in high school. That would be 1984 as a senior.

I like the sound of the 3" Hooker Aero chambers on my B wedge , 3" H pipe out 2 1/2" tailpipes.

I liked Turbo mufflers on my 340 Dart AFTER I put in an H pipe.
I did not like Turbo mufflers on the 383 Belvedere II with separated pipes, plenty loud with stock mufflers.

I think you and I went to the same school. cheap old school. I replaced the thrush round mufflers with the turbo.
and then later in life I found the aero chamber.
OP be sure to add a H pipe if you can, adds a nice balanced tone.

I run the jegs kit on my duster. I opted to buy the kit with no mufflers and went with magnaflows I found on sale. In the long run cost me 40-50 more for magnaflow set up. Has a good sound to it

I currently run the Aero Chamber on my big block Duster.

FWIW, I got rid of the lousy Flowmaster and it's "drone" in my truck with a Dynomax VT.
I just removed those from my Magnum. Wrong muffler on that car. For its intended purpose.

I am considering the Jegs 2-1/2" kit on my Duster. Running mild build 318, stock heads, ported with 1.88/1.6 valves installed. Running 340 manifolds.

I'd like opinions on two things.

1. Is there a source for pre-made down pipes from manifolds to the rest of the system?

2. What's the craze about H pipes?
I ran 2 1-7/8 pipes out of the manifolds on my high school 69 Barracuda 318 with thrush hush and I loved it.

Can anyone fill me in and get me up to speed?

Thanks!

Question #1, No.

Question #2, the "H" pipe helps balance the exhaust for more power and a slight quieter exhaust note. The "X" pipe is better.

I have run the Jegs 2-1/2 exhaust kit and I used the "suggested" Hooker headers as well. It was very good.

1.0 YES TTI sells the head pipes behinde the exhaust manifolds for $188 a pair

I'm the original poster. I just used my original headpipes from the old exhaust and welded a flange onto them to attach to the Jeg's system.
My blog has some pics and video for sound:
