started the duster today

Saweet!!! That sounds healthy! What is your exhaust/header set up? I want my 71 340 clone to look pretty much like what you have, love it.

Awesome vids Oldman....sounds very similar to mine. Was your little squirly smokey done in first or second? I know over the years you have done this, but can you point to a thread listing the specs on your engine. Thanks!!

I'm in the middle of putting headers (hooker 1-5/8 to 3 inch collector) and exhaust (3 inch H pipe, 3 inch bullet mufflers) on my 340. Hoping I get about the same sound as that. That pure nasty sound. Had 340 hi-performance manifolds into 2-1/4 exhaust with some pypes mufflers on there before. It was enough to scare the rice cars (a quick rev usually shut them up). But only encouraged some of the local muscle. Had to walk on a couple guys to show em whats what.

I just love that rowdy nasty bullet muffler sound. There's no mistaking it.

Like my Chevy friends always say. The motor is - Bored, Stroked, Balanced and Blue Printed, ported and polished, High Dome's, 3/4 Race cam!, Polly's locks.. and a whole bunch of other words I'm probably forgetting .

Oh yeah ! if you listen real close in the under the hood shot you can tell it is a Corvette engine. Listen for the wurrr-ing sound coming from the solids . Other then what I mentioned its basically all stock. lol.

I have a list of things that need to get done on her and no time or money to do them. She's not broke. Just needs a tad more big dollar items under the hood and light weight coil over suspension .
I was considering selling the car minus the motor and trans at one time. But my son wants the car. I keep the car in the race trailer and happy its there.

Years back I had a Demon like this Duster. Sounded just like it. I sold it to a friend who left his son drive it. He lost his son that day.

My son Has been dirt racing since he could walk up into a sprint car. I didn't want to go through what my friend went through. The only thing his son drove before the Demon was a Bicycle.

My son is now in his 30's. I still worry when he takes the Duster out.

This car will hit the 9000 rpm rev limiter in 3rd. The gears are 4.56-1 the tires are 29's. do the MPH math here-- Calculate GEAR, RPM, MPH, TIRE DIAMETER

Add the 5500 stall converter with tires and suspension that never hook the car up = a recipe for desaster.

sorry for the long answer. You asked why it sits? This is why.

Posting these photos may save a life. There were two people in this Demon. It got away from him on a long straight . He hit the only thing in the field . He just shifted second to drive when he lost it. you could follow the marks right off the road. The rock was about 50 ft into the feild.
