1969 Barracuda Dash Help

-
They should have kept cigar lighter in the ashtray not in the dash. Looks cleaner without the lighter in the dash. I realize the dash cigar lighter is a leftover from the 68 with the funky lower dash padding.

Whats funny is if you order one of these with a console in 69 you get a lighter in the dash ashtray, one in the console ashtray, and one in the dash. Either everybody in 69 was a smoking fiend, or mopar was way ahead putting power ports everywhere in the barracuda LOL
I've always heard Plymouth was ahead of the times so my bet is they were just putting power ports everywhere for in the future.

Oh alright. Thanks. I have a map light but it's about the center of the dash, I'm guessing someone moved it there maybe? Unless there were two.
2 possible locations for the map light socket. Center right of ashtray for non A/C cars, far right of glovebox for A/C cars because of the center vents below the dash.

Well mine didn't come with AC so guess that makes sense. Thanks. I'm amazed at how many questions you've been able to answer already.

No prob. I added the light package to my car. Even added the ignition switch light and time delay relay. The 67 didnt have the ignition switch light. Its a nice touch. I put my map light on the far right when i redid the dash as i may be adding A/C later on.

Any was to tell if my car originally came with it? I don't see any lightbulbs in the place but then again I don't see any in the pillars I know the dome lights go in so...

Domelights in the sides of the pillars were standard.

The light package was a trunk light, a glovebox light, ashtray light, ignition switch light with time delay relay, and in 1970 up headlamp timer delay.

Not sure if the light package was available on the barracuda. I added it to mine. Theres a tab on the trunk driprail for a pin switch for a trunk light. Theres a hole in the dash frame for the pin switch for the glovebox door to contact against for the glovebox light. These may have been seperate items as dealer installed options, since plymouth was billed as a price leader, and this was to keep costs down.

The ignition switch lamp is activated when you open the car door. This illuminates the lamp over the ignition switch. The time delay relay keeps the lamp lit for several minutes, then the contacts open and the light over the ignition switch goes out. This is convienent at night to find the keyhole

The illuminated ignition setup requires a different door pin switch with 2 spade type prongs and 2 wires to activate. Standard wiring for the domelight without illuminated entry used 1 wire in a barrel type bayonet connector, and a body ground.

My 67 was not wired for illuminated ignition, because the schematics show it not have been available in 67 on A bodies. I added it in using various schematics from 68 and 69 darts.

I'd like to add the 70 up headlight relay. It goes like this, you shut off the ignition first, then shut off the lights. The headlamps stay lit for several minutes then relay shuts off and lights automatically go out. Yes this was on A bodies.

Just looked on evilbay, found the lower dash trim decals in matte silver for 68/69 cars. I bet DMT makes these decals to order, and if you tell them your dilemma they prob can cut out a set in matte black. They show a set in matte black for 67 models. All i typed in was DMT barracuda dash decals, hit search.
Just heard back from DMT and they do have a matte black custom bottom piece for barracudas I can get. I'm going to order it, thanks for the tip off.

The map light is not in the same location as the switch for it. About the only thing that is set up that way is the radio.LOL

I am a little late to the party, but here is a picture of my dash. It is original.

The hole for the switch should be in the lower L/H corner of the dash. The price for an original map light switch is insane. I bought the trim piece that says map light, then bought a $2 SPST toggle switch that had a shiny metal handle with 2 spades on the back from my electrical supply house. I unpinned the spades from the connector, and put then in their own single connectors, and plugged em into the toggle switch. Mount it so that towards you is on, away from you is off. Should be 2 brown wires in a connector or a brown wire and pink wire in a connector on the drivers side of the dash.

Yes it was part of the Sports package or Rallye package, not sure of the correct name. It has the 150 MPH speedo also.

Hey Qkcuda, nice interior. Love the color. i noticed your seat belts do not appear to be stock. I was wondering if you got them from wesco performance. If so, do they fit well, i am 5'-11" i was wondering if they cut into your neck. What length did you go with for the buckle end on the front belts. I am wanting to convert my 67 notch to 3 point belts, i know where to put the upper outboard mount bolts.

I was going to go with the stock 68/69 shoulder belt setup, but it sucks. Do these fit well, can you show us better installation pix they look really good. Btw my car didnt have half its interior when i got it, this includes seat belts, did the barracuda come standard with 3 belts in the back seat or 2?

I did get my belts from Wesco. I moved the retractors to the rear footwell after that picture was taken. The upper mount uses the stock location as do the lower anchor and the buckle end. I used bench seat buckles but they are a bit too long. I was afraid that the rigid buckles would not clear the console. I since found out that you can order the rigid ones and slip the belts out of the sheathing and use them that way. They work very well for me and I am 6 feet even. I can post some more pictures and installation details after the weekend.

Map lamp switch location if it came with it. There were several options available! You need to refer to the factory wiring docs! If you need them let me know as I have posted them in full color previously!
