489 suregrip pin wear

You can tell by the bottom of the cones that they have bottomed out and are not holding anymore. Your going to have to cut the bottom of the cones .060-.080 and then ad a shim of the same thickness between the cone and axle gear.

You want to use a single thick shim, not several thin ones. I've used pinion shims from gear sets.

I assume all spider gears and pin are the same. Do you have pin and spiders collecting
dust?

Ill post a wanted thread in a bit.

Thanks Dave

The pin is not that big of deal, you can use a pin out of an open carrier, they are just a tad shorter than the original. The spiders? That is a different story, no one I know makes them. And since they are the most common piece to fail in a cone SG (those and the case) they are non existent. I talk to a guy in Australia years ago that was going to have them made, but he wanted $130.00 each.

Man..I would just try to find a better one...I too have welded around the pin and beat the crap out of them when I had no funds to buy a better one tho with very good results.
