Where I used to live in Detroit has the beautiful Woodlawn Cemetery where many famous people are buried. This cemetery is only five minutes from my grandparent's house, which is great since it's a very nice spot to visit on a nice warm day.

Today when I was walking though, I was on the lookout for the Dodge brother's crypt. My brother had told be before that it was near the pond. So as I was walking around the pond looking for it, I came out from this small treeline and saw this very large crypt right in front of me. I walked around it to the front and sure enough it was the Dodge brother's crypt!

I was so intrigued by the beautiful architecture of this crypt. It has those two Sphinxes in front of the crypt, which suggests that it was based off Egyptian architecture. Anyway, I thought the whole thing was amazing and I could not leave without getting some pictures of it.

A big thanks to the Dodge brothers for bringing us some wonderful cars!

Very interesting. I wonder...
Why the flags out front. Were they veterans?
Why the Sphinxes?
Why the coins left there?

I think that there is some nice stained glass in the back of there also if you can get a picture of it....

When mom and I were there once in May, there were a bunch of tadpoles in the pond behind there...

That's beautiful.
Horace & John were not veterans. Both born in the 1860s, and both died in 1920 from pneumonia.

Spectacular century old construction aside I always felt Egyptian's were kind of primitive and creepy.
Misjoined heads and bodies of man and beast, beetles, snakes and other unnerving creatures.
I could never make sense of what those ancient people were thinking but can only assume it wasn't good. And I especially dislike those freakish jackal things.
Ancient Greece or Roman art would seem a more pleasing, less unsettling choice in my mind when it comes to adopting ancient statue's for a final resting place.
Anyway a grand monument for a worthy pair of grand machinist and car builders.
