I just noticed my heater core has 1/2 and 3/4 inch outlets instead of the 5/8 I think it should be.

Do I have the wrong heater core? Or there different cores?

On this hunk of **** I have I can never tell what I have to unf@@ck because some other pole spinner cobbled it up.

So can anyone tell me why the heater core has a different sized outlet and if it is wrong?

Thanks

Some years were 1/2 and 5/8 instead of two 5/8 I believe. But 3/4? no

What size of bosses do you have on you engine manifold and pump that pumps water to the heater core? My 70 SB plumping is 1/2 pipe nipple intake manifold / (1/2)hose to heater core, 5/8 hose from heater core to 5/8 nipple on the water pump. Heated water to the heater core is almost always the smaller hose from the manifold. 3/4? No never heard of this. If you got to, you can hardware this...take your old fitting off of manifold, ask the man at hardware store for this size pipe to a 3/4 nipple, for you 3/4 hose to you heater core. This is an option. (?)

Well crap, I'll have to go out and measure the outlets on the pump. I thought it was 3/4 and 5/8 but I'll have to double check.

I do know the heater core is 1/2 and that seems weird to me.

I'm really hating this car.

1/2" and 5/8" on my non-A/C '74 duster. 5/8" x2 on my factory A/C '71 el5 Dart GT, one hose even has the Mopar part # on it.

It will be 5/8
Older cars had 1/2", newer cars (unsure when the change was made 72-3?) were made with one 5/8.

I can tell you that my 71 has 1/2 and 5/8. I do believe that they changed in 73 to 5/8" for both. However, either of the heater cores will fit from my experiance.

Like I said, my '74 has a 1/2" and a 5/8". It was like that when I removed the original heater core, it was a 91k original mile, 3 owner car with the last two owners only having it for 2 years or so. But it's a non-A/C car.

And my '71 core has two 5/8" connections. It's an 82k mile car with what appears to be the original core. One of the hoses still has all the factory markings believe it or not. But it's also an A/C car.

I think the difference has more to do with the A/C vs non-A/C cars. Probably by year too somehow, but it's obviously not a clear cut 73+ deal.

Very good point, I didnt think about that. My car was originally a A/C car so maybe that is why that heater core was 5/8, 5/8.
