Hey all, I have a built 360 with Keith Black pistons, MP 292/508 cam, M1 single plane intake, carter thermo quad 850, 4:10 4 speed in a 1969 Barracuda I just bought and I am looking for things that could increase performance. I just bought new RN12YC Champions spark plugs and I'm not sure what distance to set them at. Any suggestions about anything performance wise is appreciated. Thanks.

What do you have for an ignition system?...

stock is generally .035

gap them at .035. Didn't you have a thread on this already??? you were going to try to get it running? Did you get it running? You don't know how it performs if you haven't went through the stuff discussed in the last thread....

That's what I am working on now, the wiring is in, and I was going to replace plugs before I started it and the wires look fine, is the stuff mentioned in the last thread, but that was supposed to be a carb question that turned into a everything thread. This is more of a overall performance thread.

Gotcha. So I assume by "adding performance", you actually mean getting it to run great as she sits.... It will only run/perform as good as the carb sitting on top of it to begin with....

Correct. I want to get her running/ drivable and to have a healthy engine. The previous owner rigged a lot is a big reason she's not running now. Needed to order a lot of smalls which have finally arrived.

wish you were closer, sounds like fun getting it going :)

I think I am getting pretty close, all the engine bay wiring is pretty much done, just need to do two things, and the dash wiring is ready to go in, so I'm really hoping to have it running asap. Didn't you recommend a holley 750 double pumper carb? If so I may post in the wanted section that I am looking for one.

1-3/4 headers
"X" exhaust at 2-1/2 would be good.
Well ported 2.02 heads, aluminum preferred.
Top Of the line ignition

Yes, I recommended a 750 dp for your particular set up. We don't know anything about the TQ. Could have been laying around for years and they threw it on to sell it. You have to start with a good carb (not saying the TQ isn't) before you can sort through any of the issues of how it runs.

Sounds like a re curved distributor would be in order as well ONCE it is running smoothly.Get all the bugs worked out and get it running as best you can before modifying anything. Then try to keep it one at a time so you know what helps and hurts.

I'd go with atleast a 750 carb(i prefer quickfuel)..that cam is an oldddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd design much BETTER cams out there now,Autolite plugs(champions are garbage) a good set of headers and atleast a 2 1/2" exhaust system..

Camshaft is fine, for now.... Quickfuel is sweet, but pricey..(Have one),a 750 4779 Holley,is my choice ,on carbs..(can be had used, cheaply. Start simple, without the extra adjustments, learn one thing at a time...) Does "stock distributor..",mean points,or an later model 72 electronic stock distributor? .... Either way,if you have patience, you could curve it to roughly 34-36 @ 3000 rpm, & 12 to 18 initial.. Should help smooth the cam out..A good distributor curve,& a good accelerater pump shot tune, completely changes street drivability....Just,my roughly quick thoughts, off what you have posted.
Spark plug gap, starts with listing the whole combination....We be bass ackwards...
