proverbs 11:24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
Sorry but I have to throw the bullshit flag on that one! David Hannum said it best"there is a sucker born every 60 seconds!"

I'm sure there is some truth to that too
but all I can say is that I never minded sharing what I have, and I NEVER had want of anything
well, want, maybe, but needs, never

I work to hard for what I have. And I can't afford to run into characters that are like the ones in post #23. I will not loan you my Gravely 260Z that I paid $6700.00 for in 2002 that is still like new because I take good care of it. However my neighbor asked to borrow it once and I said no, but I will go mow your lawn with it? And I did.

I loaned our beater 93 Dakota to a friend and got it back with dome door damage back last Dec. He said he would fix it (he's a bodyman). Hasn't been fixed yet. One of the fingers in his clutch broke; knowing that he hasn't fixed the Dakota door, he didn't even hint at borrowing our 2010 Ram (I let the registration lapse on the Dakota so it's not available.) Sorry, lesson learned, no one borrows any of our vehicles!

There's only a couple of people that i will lend things out to PERIOD.
And only because i have known them for a lot of years.
The rest, no freaking way, i don't care what sob story they have.
The last time was my new lawn mower lent to my sister in law that came back......you guessed it....... screwed up.
It was all scratched up and filthy like it rolled around in her pickup for a week (later i found out that was the exact case), and worst of all, it vibrated badly.
I flipped it over, and 1/3 of the blade was missing! When asked, she said she ran over a root growing above ground and it stalled, but she started it back up with no vibration. I called B.S. on that one, and we got into a screaming match about it. I ended up buying and installing a new blade, but the engine never ran right after that, always had a small vibration.
Never again.
And this is one of about a thousand that went wrong versus about 50 that went good.

My little brother asked to borrow my chain saw. He returned it two months later. The next time I went to use it, I found he had filled the gas tank with oil and it wouldn't run for anything even after changing the gas out. Had to spend $100 for a small engine repair shop to get it going again. Did my little brother ever admit it? Hell no.

I lent my neighbor my truck (it sits in my yard 300+ days a year, so why not?) it came back with a couple year old four wheeler in the bed.

My girlfriend (now wife) used to pop in at my work with fast food, then steal my 68 camaro. Always came back with a full tank of gas (was $4 a gallon at the time too)

how about finding people in your life you can trust??

Well, he just picked up the duster
(His BMW 330i is in my garage as collateral, or in case I need to go somewhere)

I'll keep you guys posted

Everyone gets one.

That is, everyone gets one chance when it comes to borrowing. If it's not brought back in the same or better condition. Then you don't get to borrow anything else. Of course there are exceptions (accidents do happen). But if something happens, I except to hear about it and for you to take care of whatever happened. It shouldn't be my responsibility or stress me out. Even that said though. Some items I won't let someone borrow unless I know they know how to use it. Or I supervise them use it.

For example. I was recently borrowing my buddies garage for some work on the scamp. Not only did I buy him some tools he needed (basic stuff nothing crazy). I also stocked his garage with rags and floor clean. And sorted/cleaned all the tools. I'm going back today to finish cleaning the floor. The garage will look better then it did when I started borrowing it. And he gets some garage stuff he needed.

so, I'm curious as hell - do you know - what does need the for?

I got a good idea ...but I'm not sure
hes a goo kid who started working at a body shop after graduating earlier this year AND he mentioned I was gonna be happy when I get it back...so I'm thinking he might be buffing out the paint

but I truly don't know

Everyone gets one.

thats the way I go through life
treat everyone like they are a decent person, until they prove otherwise

Exactly. I do my best not to be prejudiced or "judge a book by its cover". Everyone starts with a default level of respect and what not. And their actions, words and such determine how much respect they lose or gain. Pretty simple and fair way of going about it.

Well for all you bleeding heart suckers, Can I borrow 10,000.00? I swear I'll pay you back, just as soon as my hunch back brother straightens up! Really I will!

well, as you asked so nicely - - - no jaded one, you may not (not like I have it to lend anyway)

so, quick little update
my own plans got changed a bit and my datenight ran late
as a result, I wasn't home at the time he was planning on dropping the car off (and he said there was "one more thing he wanted to do to it") so I told him to bring it back tomorrow

he did mention the duster died (didn't talk about specifics, I'm guessing he left the ignition in accessories) so he replaced the battery in it
I'm pretty sure that battery was old when I got the car, a few years ago
so I'm excited to see where this is going

I was in the Navy back in the 80's and had to go on a 3 week deployment to Gitmo and a friend asked me if his wife could use my 69 Impala 2 door ( Nice Car) while we were gone. I said yes. When we returned she said the car got towed because she parked it somewhere she shouldn't have and told me where it was. After walking 5 miles to the towing company they told me if I wanted it back I had to pay 500 bucks for the tow and 20 days storage. That meant she had it towed the same friggin day we left! I didn't have the money and asked if I could take my personal belongings. When I got to the car I saw that the dash was melted as the cigar lighter must have got stuck in. I have been very reluctant to lend ever since.

Another time I lent my brother my 66 skylark convert to go to the beach. I told him no racing, drinking, etc and he agreed.......well the next morning one of my neighbors called me ang asked why did I leave a half a case of Budweiser in front of his house around 2 o'clock in the morning. Last time I let him drive anything I had!

Years ago my nephew asked to borrow our then 5 year old '74 Trans Am to use for his high school prom. The answer then was "no".
An 18-year old kid who'd never driven anything other than his parents underpowered "familymobiles" out to impress his prom date? I don't think so.
