Radiator?

We have a 22" wide 3 row Champion in a '65 Cuda, 340 with AL heads, mild cam, headers, and I am not impressed with that size Champion in that application. It has 3 rows of 3/4" tubes. It gets too hot on the interstate, so the flow of air and/or coolant is too low. This is with a high flow Milodon water pump and mild underdrive pulley setup. (The mechanical fan with this rad/pump combo has proven adequate for low speed cooling, and the fan is out of the equation at high speeds anyway.)

The upper hose gets pretty hard with pressure so I suspect the rad core is not flowing well. Plus the better heat conduction of AL heads puts more heat into the coolant. So iron heads

There are postings out there that indicate that the Champions do not flow all that well. I am working to convince my son to switch to a 22" wide 2 row, 1.25" wide tube Griffin crossflow rad. I compute the cooling to be 15-20% better with just the tube design, excluding any flow improvements that might show up. If we get to the point of changing it, I'll post the results.
