Thanks to the great community here I was able to identify the 340 sitting in my Coronet. It belongs to a 68 GTS. Reach out if its yours!

Date stamp: 6/22/67, N (night shift?)
Casting Stamp: 2780930-340
EIN or VIN: 8B392511
Serial Number: DW34022450139

This is not matching my 68 GTS. But....... I have a 72 340 in my GTS that i would like to swap out with a 68. I know it would be nice if it could go back into the numbers car. Are you going to let it go even if the match does not show up? You did not say that you were going to let it go at all but I assumed that your intention was to send it back to its original body. I have a really clean original 4 speed GTS that would give it a great home. I was just out your way in Portland last week and went to the cruise in over at PIR. WOW there are a ton of nice cars over your way and over a 1000 cars on a Wednesday is amazing. Good Luck.

Yes I would let it go to but only to someone who is going to use it in a GTS. The likelihood of the true VIN car owner finding this post is minuscule. I contacted the GTS registry and they said that they have no documentation on the matching VIN vehicle. If I was looking for a GTS motor to match my car that is the first place I would go.

With that said, I also have a goal of de-Frankensteining my car. It's a Coronet R/T clone and even has the 440 Magnum scoop emblems. (I feel guilty every time I look at them) But, I really love my 340 and would only really consider a trade for a like 440. I suspect this example is the next shelf up from mine. Mopar 440 rebuilt complete carb to pan

I am willing to put in the work to make a trade happen if the right one comes up. Frankly, the logistics of an engine swap are kind of daunting since mine is in the vehicle.

You never know. I found the original engine for my '71 Challenger RT roughly 20 years after it was parted out! If there is a chance of reuniting it, this is likely the place it will happen.

It would be really awesome if that happened. Great story to tell!

If you Google "GTS 8B392511" this post is the only result. If you just do "8B392511" it's the second.

Maybe this gets out there.

I'll have to check the vin on my 68 gts when I get home. Mines not registered. Thanks for the info.

Can you send me a picture of the VIN number off of the block. What history do you know of where it may have come from? The production date is very close for my missing 340 gts convertible. I bought the car 30 some years ago, without the engine and am looking for clues . Prodution date of my car is AUG. 11 1967.

No idea on where the corresponding vehicle was from. I know that the engine was put into my car down in Arizona. But that doesn't really mean anything.

My engine vin is 8B392511.

Not the one I am looking for. It's out west here some place. I'll keep looking. Thanks.
Good luck. Just in case you haven't yet, reach out to the GTS registry. They keep tabs on engines and parts people tell them about.

I have a block with what looks like VIN 8B237808 in my 68 GTS convertible that does not match my VIN. My vin starts with 8b187.

I had a green on green on green 340 68 gts. purchased from Lake city dodge in Seattle around spring 68. it was a stripe delete car. Beautiful car, maybe the best Mope Ive ever owned, and I've owned s LOT. my father sold it to some laborer in Concorde, California several years later. It must have had over 150k on it then.
