I have changed my 1970 Dart from a Automatic to a 4 speed on the floor, I now want to change out the steering column to get rid of the column shifter. My car has power steering now and I do not want to change that. All I can find are manual steering columns, can a manual column be cut down to fit on the power steering gear box? As I assume the difference is the length of the end shift. Or am I totally missing something?

i think your over complicating things

i would take the collar of (sorry, i don't know the proper name, i mean the part that has the gear selector and indicator on it) cut both those pieces off, smooth it out, repaint it and reinstall

no one will ever know the difference

like this:
Automatic to manual steering column conversion "HOW TO"

If you find a manual steering column you can swap the PS center shaft from your column into the manual steering column. That's what I did in prep to add PS to my 65 Barracuda.

I just completed this. It is actually quite simple. You can swap the power steering shaft from your existing steering column into the manual steering one. A factory service manual will provide step by step instructions nd some good diagrams to follow.
