driveshaft balancing

My friends Comet had undercoating applied at the used car dealership and they sprayed half the driveshaft...He got 100 miles down the road, figured it out and spent 2 hours under the car parked on a curb chipping the crap off the driveshaft with a putty knife. When they balance it, my guy taped a large fender washer to it and spin balanced it. After a few adjustments, he tacked it on and painted it. No problems.

I took mine to a race shop and had it balanced to tune of $140 and it still was out of balance after.
It was better, but still.
When I swapped in the 42RH trans I shortened the driveline myself 4 inches by cutting the weld, then cut the tube and welded the yoke back on paying attention to phase and centering of course.
Figured on taking it to another balance shop after it was done, but didn't need to because it's smooth as silk.
Sure get tired of places that charge money and can't do the job.
