had a driveshaft made silly me just assumed they would balance but they dont, how important is it to have it done?

Very important! Otherwise it you dont it will buzz & shake & drive it long enough it will take out u-joints & take out pinion bearings & seals. Balance it.

Had an improperly balanced driveshaft on my race car. it only took 3 laps and before I could get off track it gave up. took out the shaft, both u-joints, and the transmission. As Hipo65 says, don't drive with an unbalanced or improperly balanced driveshaft. and make sure they spin balance it, not a static balance.

We have the best price on houses anywhere (does not come with ceiling)

WTF is up with making a driveline that doesn't get balanced.
That would piss me the heck off in a hurry.

We talked about this,Greg ..She&%t ,can happen...

The balance of a driveshaft is most noticeable in the lower (higher numeric) gear ratios where the shaft speed is greater. The thing that really makes one shake is if the phasing is off even just a little. If the yokes on each end are not in the same plane you will know it pretty quickly. If it is only a balance issue it will normally be felt or heard as a slow pulsing repeating drone at speed. There is a procedure listed in the Mopar Bible (yellow book) for balancing the drive shaft using hose clamps to find the sweet spot. If you have a real violent shake there are either some serious material issues or it is out of phase or yokes are not true center.

The two hose clamps, working each one off out at opposite angles? Nice memory,M gun....

My friends Comet had undercoating applied at the used car dealership and they sprayed half the driveshaft...He got 100 miles down the road, figured it out and spent 2 hours under the car parked on a curb chipping the crap off the driveshaft with a putty knife. When they balance it, my guy taped a large fender washer to it and spin balanced it. After a few adjustments, he tacked it on and painted it. No problems.

I took mine to a race shop and had it balanced to tune of $140 and it still was out of balance after.
It was better, but still.
When I swapped in the 42RH trans I shortened the driveline myself 4 inches by cutting the weld, then cut the tube and welded the yoke back on paying attention to phase and centering of course.
Figured on taking it to another balance shop after it was done, but didn't need to because it's smooth as silk.
Sure get tired of places that charge money and can't do the job.

I remember Tim.
I'm sure you remember how annoyed I was also. :D
Remember I told you that if we ended up moving out there I was going to talk to the guy about combining forces and working together?
Changed my mind. :D
All that equipment and he still couldn't get it right.

Another setback, dont know how you can build driveshafts and not balance them. now gotta hunt a another shop and get it balanced!

I cut and welded one too, dont remember feeling any difference. The chop job I got professionally had the balance included.

I had a slight vibration that was bothering me so I called a local shop I found online (had just moved here) to ask him about prices. Said he'd balance and replace both u-joints for $140. So I dropped it off and the place was a very old school, one man operation. I told him I'd write an online review and could he please take care of me as I wasn't working at the time. When I picked it up he charged me $100 to balance and replace both u-joints! I wrote a glowing review for him!

Same as pishta, he welded what looked like a body washer and painted it black. Man, what a difference...absolutely no vibration. And yes, I replaced my extension housing seal in the 904 since it was seeping from the vibration...
