I tried the water and alcohol (no effect), but since aluminum is very porous I'm hesitant to put any chemicals on it. Maybe a dab of Goo B Gone might do it.
Ronsonol lighter fluid is an excellent solvent. Removes the gum from self-adhesive stamps without damaging them. Will soften it that you can scrape it off, then wipe with clean fluid.
