High beams

On high beam indicator light works, no lights, ammeter shows full discharge. .........Why the full discharge and no lights.

I told you how this works, "above."

The only thing common to the problem starting at the dimmer switch as follows.....................the switch has 3 terminals. One gets power FROM the light switch. of the other two, one is hot in low, the other is hot in high. THAT TERMINAL, the "high" terminal, branches off and feeds the indicator lamp, and feeds through the firewall (bulkhead connector)

FROM THERE coming into the engine bay, it is ONE WIRE to the high beams. Goes around the side to the front, branches off to the two headlights.

Sounds to me like you have a full -- on short

Could be a shorted headlight. Disconnect both headlights FIRST and see if the ammeter stops acting up. Then plug them back in one at a time

Might be the "new" harness is mis--wired somehow or has a cross--connect to the grounding wire.
