I have recently installed a 440 into my Demon. The clutch that was in it is only a year old and very few miles on it. It is a McCleod street pro diaphragm style. I know it is only rated to 400 hp but I don't have a crazy build going on. So I am hoping it will hold out until I can purchase a better clutch. Anyway, what is the rule of thumb for adjusting the clutch? Where or how close should the throwout bearing be to the diaphragm? The pedal feels right but then does not feel right at the same time. I just want to be sure I don't put it too close or too far away.

Go to the Mcleod website. Mine came with exact details on play out

That clutch will last longer than you think. I had a cheap hd auto zone clutch I dragged with for two years til it started slipping....

rules of thumb - U want the clutch pedal action to be in the midrange of its travel. when U step on the pedal U want to push the pedal atleast 1" before it starts pushing on the pressure plate. with the pedal to the floor and going up atleast 1" before it starts to grab.
