Is there a specific intake that goes with 915 heads?

I found a 68 440 roadrunner with an intake (2806178) and was wondering if there was a particular intake that would only be found with 915 heads? The casting on the intake is late 67. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Jake

That's probably about the right one. But to answer your question, no. The intake that would have come on the 67 440 HP was no different than any other square bore, non EGR intake, to my knowledge.

2806178 would have been on a lot of 915 heads. That's the best iron intake made.
Just as good as a Edelbrock Performer in my book.

I threw mine in the junk I hauled off, why would you want one, unless doing a resto.?

Other than being heavy iron,a good intake. The M1 dual plane is the aluminum version that Mopar Performance did.

For what its worth, ANY Mopar intake, would bolt right up to the 915 heads.... I do not believe there was ever a "special" intake made to any of the Stock OEM Heads offered for the 440....

There must have been a specific casting that went with 915 heads because they were only 1 year and from what ive read were only on 440 magnums, unless youre suggesting that they put 915 on random 440's??

915 heads are the closed chamber version. They were used on many years of 383/ 440 engines.

They are nothing special in the Mopar world.

The same 2806178 intake manifold was used on all 4-bbl 440 engines 1967-69.

To use one in a performance application above 3,000rpm is nuts......unless the rules require it. I flow tested the 2806178 on a service prepped RPM cylinder head using an 850 Mighty Demon carburetor. Then I tested the same port of the cylinder head using a RPM dual plane, Torker II single plane, M1 single plane and the Victor single plane, all with the same 850 4-bbl. Below are the cfm results.

Lift.......6178.......RPM......Torker II......M1.......Victor

.200.....131........145........148..........148.......150
.300.....172........195........201..........202.......202
.400.....187........228........242..........232.......240

To bad you hadn't tried a regular Edelbrock Performer. My guess is the results would have been very close to a 2806178.

The 915 heads I have come across came on 67
engines only. They are special in that respect. Not as common as the open chamber heads. Their is a 516 closed chamber also but not quite as desirable as the 915. Not all 915s were magnums but could be with a exhaust valve change. They are not special like a max wedge head but I wouldn't dismiss them as common
iron big block heads. They are the factory quench head and were very popular before the aftermarket stepped in.
If the aftermarket hadn't filled the market with aluminum heads the 915's would be getting more respect. They are still sought out for use in classes
that require iron heads. I've had guys willing to pay a few hundred for cores and the 100.00 to ship them.
All other iron heads short of max wedge folks won't pay the cost of shipping to get them.
I still have a hard time dumpstering the 906s and 516s and they tend to stack up under the bench.
But have scrapped over thirty pair of the open chambered iron heads to clear up shop space at times. The 915s are the only iron head that guys
are willing to use.

Maybe I should look at selling my set, they are ported, polished, flowed, fully assembled and currently in use on my car. If they are worth a grand as is, I wonder if it's worth unloading them and going with Stealths
