Easiest headers to install?

Sure you can say easy. The set of Truck pulling headers I install on my sand Drag truck with a 340 were vvvvvery easy to install. They ran straight up in the air.
 
here's a question...can you open up a set of stock exhaust manifolds to breath a little better?....just a shot in the dark...may make your buget better if posssible....just a thought
I actually used 69 cast 340 exhaust manifolds, which by the way work pretty well, on a 340 with W-2 heads back 20 years ago. Worked just fine and the sound was awesome. I ground out the openings to fit the W-2 exhaust gasket. The guy that we sold it to said that there was virtually no difference between his Hooker headers and my worked over manifolds. Guess that Mopar engineers had some idea as to what works back in the late 60's.

But what the heck, the guy was Gary Ostrich and I believe what he said was, "for what you want this Dart for, headers would only add more heat in the engine compartment and not give you more about 10 hp difference". That was after I did the porting on the manifolds and the guy that it was sold to DID put headers on it and pretty much said the same thing as Gary had.

Oh yes, Gary Ostrich, in the late 60's and early 70's worked with Mopar in the development of racing heads, among other projects for Chrysler. He also was under contract with Chrysler and raced Plymouths from 1965 till about 1972, including the 68 Plymouth Barracuda racing hemi.

As this was suppose to be about easiest to install, and I guess the old 340 high performance manifolds would be the easiest, but I have to agree with several on this post to the TTi headers. Sure they are expensive, but in most cases you get what you pay for. For me, an LA motor in an A-body, I'd go the manifolds, if one went with a B motor, I'd do the TTi headers. This is for the street, for the strip, yes headers, I agree.

Just so happens that a old co-worker from Esco Auto Supply worked at Neita Raceway in Cedar Falls, Iowa about 50 miles from where Gary lived. This old photo just popped up a few min. ago on a Facebook site. It's Gary O and Judy Lilly at the starting line.

Gary Ostrich did experimental head work for Chrysler Corp. He also got many of the factory cars to race. I don't remember him having anything that wasn't Hemi Powered.

Doesn’t seem like it was three years ago that Gary passed away, but early in February it is. Gary did face a 440 in a GTX, almost exactly like the one I had. We even did a trick on Gary with mine. Chuck and I that is. The cars were that similar.

In 67, Chrysler said, to keep on their good side, you WILL face a 440 as well as their previous hemis. They wanted them to sort out the new 440 in the GTX and R/T cars. So, Gary did race a 67 Blue GTX in 67.
 
Without paying a ton of money (under $200), what are some headers that would be an easily bolt on to a 72 dodge dart with power steering?
Explain your installation process as well.

Here is my input. About 25 years ago, I got a cheap pair of Headman headers on my 69 340 Barracuda with PS. They were a pain to install, and the steering linkage does go through the driver's side tubes. Actually, the passenger side went in fairly easy; the driver side is the treat. All I had to do was dimple one tube a bit and grind on one ear of the PS box a bit to get them to fit. I eventually had them coated,, and they look great. I may get TTI someday, but these are working fine for me now. I jack the car up as high as I can get it, unbolt the motor mounts, and feed them up from the bottom. Passenger side is not too bad. Using a block of wood under the passenger side of the oil pan, I lift the passenger side of the engine up a bit and the header slips right up. Same with the drivers side, but much trickier. You have to hold your mouth just right. If they won't slip in, I can almost guarantee you that the car isn't high enough.

Remembering Gary is a treat. I use to stop in to his shop there in Nevada, and he always had a word for me, like "What the hell do you want now?" We had that kind of relationship, usually I came back with, "Nothing that you can help with, that's for sure" or something like that. One day I had my daughter with me and he started in with some of his nice expetitives and then saw Susie. Yes, he was embarrassed.

I see that you have the hemi station wagon that he raced in 69-70. There was a time at Mile High that someone started to lower the rear tailgate. I never thought that he could move that fast, as he stopped the guy, just in time. There was about 150 lbs of concrete in that tail gate. Those were the days that one used every advantage that they could, that included sometimes, concrete.
That was about the only time that I can remember that he completely bent the rules. His answer, shucks, this is calm compared with most of the others are doing in the Chevy camp. Put a magnet to any brace bracket or whoever on their front ends. Of course I didn't put a magnet to any of his, either. One couldn't find a guy greater than Gary. Guess that's why Pete and Charlie Malyke got a long so well. It was with Charlie that they worked with Chrysler so much. Still miss him.
