Yup, it's all over for another year. I took a friend and his daughter this year. The weather was terrible for hunting. Either very foggy or very warm, both bad for moose hunting. We did manage to shoot a young bull the first day of the 5 day hunt at 4:30 pm. I would like to say it was because of my hunting abilities but I can't, it was shithouse luck. We were moving from one hunting spot to another when I spotted the bull at the back of a cutting. He was about 300 yards away. Sherry said that moose will do just fine and started shooting. I heard the thud of a hit but encouraged, ( that's a good word for it), her to keep shooting. After 8 shots it was all over. She hit 6 of the 8 shots with 2 being lethal and none of the others ruining much meat. It is a 5 pointer that we got 321 lbs of meat from. As you can tell from the photos, she is one happy first time moose hunter. I was real impressed with her eagerness to learn and not to worry about getting blood on herself. She jumped right in on the cleaning and skinning. Kudos to her. In the photo showing the cutting, if you look real hard at the clump of trees in the center of the photo you can see my truck through them, that is where she shot from and I was standing where the moose was when she shot, when I took the photo. A fair distance away. Now deer season.

Nice!

She got off that many shots with a bolt action. Wow. Is that an old Model 70

Nope, that is a sporterized .303 British Lee Enfield. It's a nice little gun that shoots real well in the right hands. The second pic she is holding her fathers Model 70.

Hmmm boy an Imature that will be some good eats. My hunting partner says it doesnt matter how many you have in the air at the same time it only maters that the moose goes down!

What year is the Enfield? I have a 1917 that's been sporterized great shooting gun.

Geez Jack, you still plugging "loose lips" at your age. I got a model 70 odd 6 and I wouldn't have tried a moose over 200 yards, that's 300 mag territory. Got one of them to. Anyway good hunting>>>>>>>>>>>>

Terry
Hey Terry, I haven't talked to you in a dogs age. How are things? Yup,still out chasing those swamp donkeys, I love it. That odd 6 of yours with 180 grains will take down most game out to 400 yards. I even use my .270 at those ranges on moose. I think the young lady might have been a little shy of a 300 MAG. Better to be confident with a smaller gun than shy with a big one.

..........That's awesome.............She looks very happy.................kim.....

She was real happy. First time entering the draw, first time drawn of course and shot it on the first day. The weather has been so bad for hunting here that it looks like the numbers will be way down this year.

hehehe I have a similar saying it is "keep shooting until you are out of bullets or until the moose is down". LOL

You should have heard me when she was shooting. "Shoot again", was said more than once. lol

Jack

Nice job, that's a good looking moose. Well I guess any moose you have on the ground is a good looking moose.
Congrats!

I just finished muzzleloader season for deer. Got off a shot at two different deer. Shot right under them both times. Think I need to get my gun out to the range and get sighted in. I can be that bad of a shot. Both were about 70 yds and uphill.

Damn yawl's seasons start early. Black powder starts in Ga on Oct 15 and in Al. on Nov 14th I think it is.

Jack I would not like to be a moose and live near your camp . Elliot just loves that pic of you and the lady with the moose .

It has to start early up here Roy. If it started later, say in November we would be hunting on snowmobiles. LOL

I did experience something to that effect. Back in 1985 I went hunting with a friend of mine on the Fire dept. We went to his home town of Lockport NY. First thing that happened was my Florida battery in my truck took a dump. Then we went out hunting with his Dad and brothers. They took me out and put me in a stand and said don't leave here, they would pick me up. It started to snow, then it was a white out. I couldn't see shat! They picked me up, and when we got back to my truck, it was covered up to the door handles with snow! My ignition lock froze up. Nah I'll stick to hunting Ga.

Ha Ha, that sounds like deer season around here. When I go out during deer season I am head to toe insulated Gortex.

Had a buddy that was out Elk hunting 1 yr and there was a Bull Moose that kept coming in on his bugles and cow calls.... He would move to a new spot and the Moose would follow him ! Couldnt shake him!
