X pipe or H pipe, again

-
All good info, thanks! I decided to go with an H-pipe. I'm having TTI make em up custom out of 304 stainless.

An X pipe won't fit if you ever upgrade to a GVOD. So I'd say you made a good choice.

why don't you just do both?
put in X pipe in near the transmission cross member, and add an H pipe near the rear axle
:poke:
Was that sarcastic? I think that would cause too much turbulence in the exhaust making it not worth it to even put a form of balance pipe in there.

yes it was, that's why I put the :poke: underneath it

Here is a comparison for you.Good exhaust comparison with tests being done on the same vehicle.Go to page 2 for the x vs h results.

I will be dynoing my new exhaust setup pretty soon, just like I did with my old setup.
But I updated everything in the exhaust; went up in size from 2-1/4" to 2-1/2", going from the castiron manifolds to headers, from seperate pipes to an X-pipe, and from stockish mufflers to Borla Pro XS mufflers.
Every with mandrell bends, compared to 'pushed in' bends before.

The current system is too large for the 318 in the car at the moment, but will be more in line with the upcoming 360 swap, after which I will put the car on the dyno once more.

would be "weight" , for nothing. the street hemis came out w/ H pipes, to quieten the exhaust a little and equalize the exhaust at the rear. did they need more low end ? I think not. x or h will change you exhaust note, but if it helps performance , u ain`t runnin a good exhaust system. - nascar, 10,000 rpm, small engine , no mufflers.

More like just right. My 302 ford system from Dynomax was 2.5".

I had 6 into 1 headers on my slant 6 with a 3" collector. Guess what size the rest of the single exit system was? Yup..3".

Why people feel the need for restriction in an exhaust system is beyond me. Tuning it is the key.

Ok so update, I got a 304 SS H-pipe 2.5" from TTI. I have a pair of SS magnaflow straight through mufflers comparable to the dynomax mufflers that come with TTI exhaust kits. I just prefer the sound and quality of the magnaflows. I'll be ending it with a couple 45* turn downs angled towards the sides of the car. I'm fabbing the connecting pipes from the Doug's headers to the h pipe out of 304 SS mandrel. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
