Stock -66 383 2bbl now with:

915 heads,
Mopar alu M1 dual plane intake,
Eddie 1406 carb,
HP manifold,
dual 2 1/4 exhaust,
727 with stock TC,
2.76 open rear end,
Mopar Performance electronic ignition with orange box.

This winter I'm going to change lifters as some of them makes a little noise, I'm consider to change the camshaft as well but I need help wich camshaft I should choose?
I know it's a low CR engine and I'm not looking for a screamer, just a little more HP and maybe a little more low end.
Is the 252 duration stock camshaft good enough for this low CR engine or is there any suggestion on a camshaft thats make a little more HP with resonable mpg?
Experience please.

What about 1.6 rockers, would that make any positive results without changning the camshaft?

I put a Summit 6401 in my 440 and I'm stoked with it. Cam specs requite 9.5-1 (which I did have) compression though, but I've read folks have used it with less and have been happy. Maybe check out Summit 6400....it's more for stock stall and compression. Either way, they're pretty cheap. I think either would require new springs. I used Comp 911-16, which were drop in springs for my 452 heads. New locks and retainer also that match the springs.

Just google Summit 6401 and 6400, it'll take you right to summit's product page.

Listen to Jl . If you wanted to try a more modern cam the comp cams 262 extreme energy would work good also but would cost more. Those 911 springs are right on.

many years ago, 1982?, I did a Rustoleum rebuild on a low mileage(35,000 ish)1967 383. I installed a used comp. cams 470 magnum cam that I already had, engine was in a 1974 D150 P.U. with auto & 3.55 rear gears. ruck ran surprisingly well even with the 2-barrel carb I broke it in with & continued to drive with for about a month until I installed a Holley Street Dominator/ 3310 750 I also already owned.oh, also had headers.

I think that one is to "hot" for my low CR engine, what do you think about Lunati 10230701?

Putting higher ratio rockers on the stock cam probably won't net you any perceivable difference...although it will give your lift a theoretical .030" increase in lift and more consistency as the factory rockers weren't always "correct" with the 1.5 ratio from one to the next.

With the cam, any of the ones suggested would likely improve your current situation...just make sure you properly degree it in, check clearances as necessary, and match your components (springs) to the grind...also, proper break in with high zinc oil or additives...wouldn't want that nice new investment to go flat.

Your cam has 214@.050 duration.

The cam I mentioned has 216@.050 and is cut on a 112lsa. It has a basic operating range of 1,800-5,500RPM.

If that is too hot, I'm at a bit of a loss.

I looked at the other lunati cam you mentioned. It's smaller than the cam you have. It is 213@.050 on a 112lsa. 1,000-5,500.

You didn't say if you have a 4 speed or an auto. Regardless if you have an auto your stock convertor stalls higher than 1,000 rpm.

rocco, I think he's looking too much at the total duration #s...just a guess.

OP: Your factory 2bbl cam is probably about 200-206 duration at 050, but your submission (Lunati 10230701) has 214--that's what rocco's talking about. Your quibbling about some pretty minor differences in the cam grind he suggested vs the one you'd like to run. IMHO, either one would be a good choice and that includes the summit grind mentioned by Jlcaptain. Also mentioned was a Comp 270 Magnum...that's also a good grind, but a little more lumpy with the 110 LSA. I've run that grind before in a small block and it ran well, but it really wants more gear and converter

Agreed.

Total or advertised duration means nothing. NOTHING!!! It's useless.

The cam in my car has 242@.050. I've seen cams with this duration run anywhere from 284 to well over 300 advertised.

I was basing his .050 number off his advertised and used the old mopar cam math. Advertised x.850.

His cam vs. mine is 3 degrees.

I'm a fan of big LSA's because I like to drive my stuff on the street.

Bear in mind the bigger the cam the lazier it will be with 2.76 gears.A small cam would be a nice upgrade. It all depends on how you drive and what rpm you want it to perform well at.
