So I'm running 12.1 @ 110mph, as we all know that's so close to being in the 11s that I gotta do it. Race season is done around here for the season but I would like to make some changes throughout the winter. Here is my setup
74 barracuda,3800lbs, 416, ported eddies, hydraulic roller 242/242-550 lift, ported rpm intake, fast ez efi, msd, tti headers, 2.5" exhaust with flowmaster 40's, 518 od with 2800 stall, 8 3/4 with 3.91s.
Couple things I think will help
-I'm currently running heavy duty clutch fan, might try the standard clutch fan, I've already spent a fortune on electrics but have not had any luck with them.
-I'm running heavy 17" wheels, might try to find a set of racing wheels with skinnies on the front, I can just switch them over on race day.
-Single plane intake, I've heard the fuel injection likes single plane more but I need to confirm that.
-Exhaust..... I'm really nervous about this one because I don't have drone right now, I definitely don't want to put on something that creates a bunch of drone.

Am I missing something that won't break the bank ?

I'm sure you know that when you drop 100 lbs you drop a 1/10 in the quarter. Probably the cheapest fix. A lower gear will help you get that load moving, depends on what your RPM is right now thru the traps. More stall for sure will help. What is the 60' times?

300# will get you .3. (or so they say)

i would love to shave some weight, not only for better et's but better everything. I am considering a fibreglass shaker vs the all steal I'm running but other than that I'm not willing to part with anything to drop weight ( other than the wheels )
My 60ft times are 1.70. Don't really want to go higher stall. This one works very well down the highway in overdrive.

Anything you do to make it faster will change the street habits. Question is what your willing to do to go quicker. Other wise my advice is put it on a little spray!

Stall converter! That is the biggest thing holding you up! Speak to frank lupo of dynamic torque converter. Also try PTC. These guys know what they are doing! The old slushy converters are long gone. They have come a long long ways with efficiency! I have a 4500 stall from dynamic! I just got back TONIGHT from a 48 mile trip. A phone call is free! It will be the best bang for the buck you can get

I agree, I just had Dynamic build me a 9 1/2" for my 416 for the street 4200 Stall. I also run a Frank Lupo converter in my 69 Dart.

low profile 17's wont hook nearly as well as smaller rim with taller soft sidewalls. Get a set of 15" MT stickies, some Cal-Tracs and I bet you a half rack you will find 11 second bracket. Skinny front ET's wont hurt either but your issue is traction, not drag.

My car had 325/45/17 drag radials and 60' faster then the new 15" wheel combo. 1.70 60' times for his ET is pretty good. More converter will expose traction issues

Pittsburgh Craigslist
Fiberglass hood, fenders, trunk lid and header panel..... $500
I'm not sure how to post a link.
I've got a 74 also..... good luck.

what rpm do you trap at?
what tire diameter are you using? 26 or 27" diameter max for 3.91
what altitude are you at?
518 tranny is a hp hog, heavy rotating mass. If you are running a stock high stall 2800 get a new one.
run as little fuel as possible, each gallon weighs 6 pounds.

How about more bottem and mid range torque? I'd suggest an X style crossover for the exhaust and some
Rhoads variable duration roller lifters also.

My first thought was 3800 pounds is pretty heavy. Perhaps you could go to fiberglass bumpers and get rid of the heavy steel bumper brackets.
2 things to save eliminate weight.

you could go more cam and still be streetable. But I would also say higher stall.
You say 2800, but what is the flash RPM?
Shifting Manually? What RPM
RPM and what gear at the end?
There's more in the motor, but that cam is probably limiting the peak HP potential
The stroker would like a single plain too?
Any dyno numbers on the motor?

I don't blame you for not wanting to gut the car. My 64 Sport Fury ran very close to those times. It went 12.12 @110 with a 1.76 60 foot. I feel my car is as fast as it's going to be without some major changes that will compromise the streetability. It seems that's where you're at. Any gear, converter, or cam change will have a drastic effect on the car. Sometimes small changes make a big difference. Disconnect the swaybar. Pop the power steering belt. Un cork the headers if you have them. Change to a light set of wheels just for when you race. A shorter tire will help the gearing.

freash spark plugs make a big diff as well . and play with tire pressures . and as my cars got everything in the running gear warmer through the race day , they got quicker as well .

get some weight outta that thing . my 406 sbc GMC went high elevens !

Sorry, wrote the cam numbers wrong, 242/252
Not willing to change stall, I just had this one built, it's great for the majority of my driving
Yes, manually shifting
5500 through trap in 3rd.
Dynoed at 530hp and 540 tq

26" tire
Track is at 2500 ft
Torque is custom built by tsc out of Vancouver
Yeah, I know the 518 is a big power robber, I tried a 727 with a gear vendors, the gear vendors blew up twice and they wouldn't extend my warranty so gave it away. ( literally )

I'm running a h pipe setup, Will a x setup help ? I'm thinking about a 3" setup but I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger
