I need for someone to tell me what I bought. I needed a transmission for my 71 Dart total roller. This one came up and I bought it thinking I can install it until I can find the parts for a 5 speed manual conversion. I don't know what I bought! LOL
The transmission is coupled to a 5.2 magnum engine from a cargo van, has the crank sensor setup and has a speed sensor instead of the speedometer gear housing. But - no overdrive! Has the pan configuration of a 727. It has the PCM of an OBD1 and a kegger intake, so it's pre-96. What is it? Thanks

What year is the engine? The dates are on the passenger side of the block by the head

No it's not and it will depend on the year it was pulled from. It can be 2 different transmissions depending on the year of the engine. They didn't use a standard 727 for 94 and up magnum engines.

If it's pre 96, I believe it would've a 46rhor the 2wd equivalent. From what I have heard, it's the same as an A518 or basicallya 727 with OD. If post 96, it's a 46re, fully electronic and shifted by solenoid a.

I'll have to look tomorrow. The man that sold it thought it was a 97 cargo van, but the PCM is OBD1. They changed to OBDII in January of 96. What are the two possible types of transmission post-92 and pre-96? It definitely came out of a van, indicated by the really long oil and trans filler tubes.

94 and older was BD1 so it may be an A500. I have a 94 van so I'll check the under hood tag and let you know.

The magnum 318 came out in '92, the 727 torqueflite (which got renamed to the 36RH/37Rh in the early 90's) was used up until around '94 so unless someone was mixing and matching parts that engine and tranny combo should be a 92-94.

A518 lock up trans. That is correct but I knew it was a 5 something and not a 727

Yep and isn't a 727 3speed,which I assume he was looking for. It's a lock up with overdrive and is an A 518 and will require a modified trans mount to work in an A body for starters.

GAWD. Read post 3 over and over and over again. Some of yall amaze me.

From some research it seems it may be a 727 with lockup converter that came in 95 B2500 vans. I went out to the driveway and looked to verify that it is a 95 engine. Looks just like a 727 because it has no overdrive. The designation from the research is a 36RH. I looked at the numbers on the side rail and could only come up with PK5211917.... couldn't distinguish the other numbers.

Its definitely a 727 type no OD unit. That tailhousing is a dead giveaway. Not even close to an A-500, Wrong pan shape.

An A518 or a500 transmission has a large overdrive unit on the back end. The transmission in the picture has a standard size tail housing but has the mounting pad on the side like some hd trucks & vans used. That is obviously a 727. You can also tell that it's a 727 version by the kick out in the oil pan pn the passenger side

THIS is an A500 (42RHOD)
No kickout in the pan and a larger/longer rear housing for the OD unit.
