i know mufflers are personal preference, but I leaning towards borla. Anybody go with the crate muffler they sell? I have the 3" tti headers and x pipe on a soon to be built street killer....lol right around 650 hp.

"Create muffler" Another excellent gimmick/catch phrase to sell people something. Just like the "Edelbrock power package" and there so called "Matched components" gimmick.

I used to run the 2-1/2" Borla turbo mufflers and really liked them. No drone and they only cost me .2 seconds in the quarter on a low 11 second car versus running open headers.

I love Borla mufflers but these "Crate" mufflers are definitely a gimmick how can you tune it to a specific motor when there are so many variables
But they don't sound bad here on this 440

I have narrowed my personal choices down to 3 different mufflers and heres my list maybe it will help you in deciding

Borla XR-1 (No idea how the sound compares between oval and round case)
Guy in this vid gets on it around 3:30

Oval Case:
40943 & 40944 The 40943 is most likely louder than the 90944 because of the shorter case length
Round Case:
40085

Black Widow Exhaust Widow Makers

They have the same size specs as the Borla S Type Mufflers but 1/2 the cost and come in 3 inch
Black Widow Exhaust - Products

Dynomax Ultra-Flo (Revs in vid at 1:30)

Thanks for all your replies. It's a tough choice. 74 dart swinger thanks for all the time you put into your post. I don't know how much time I've spent on YouTube....lol

There is a user on here that has posted a few videos of his car with what i think are Borla XR1 Sportsman mufflers, sounds real nice.
Dont forget that alot of of how an exhaust sounds depends on your enginebuild.

Found his Youtubechanel.
you may notice how much the sound has changed from his first video to the later ones, but its a good sounding car for sure.

Emilio: The Black Widow is new ,never heard of them.... Sounds sweet.... The Ultra Flo's ,quite familiar with..... That Chevelle, sounds fantastic...

I use Hooker mufflers on all my performance car builds. Great sound low restriction.
Hooker Aero Chambers, are nice...If you can find a set... The old Thrush CVX mufflers, are nice.Don't know about availability ....

I run borla Xr-1's on my car. I don't uncork at the strip. I like them a lot.

I just mounted an entirely new dual 2.5" exhaustsystem on my '73 318ci Dart.
Dougs Headers, Summit X-pipe, Borla Pro-XS mufflers and Flowmaster tailpipes to the rear. All mandrell bends.

The exhaust is quite a bit quieter than before when I had 2.25" dual exhaust, 318 castiron manifolds, 2 different sized turbo mufflers.

Just for refrence here's a 446 with a 509 cam 10 to 1with series 40 dumped at the rear axle

I've always found larger diameter exhaust to be quieter.

Spintech Pro Street 6000 or 9000

I had a Spintech Pro Street 6000 series on a V6 and I loved it. It did drone around 2500 RPM's though, but I lived with it. Even with a small V6 people heard me coming, but I didn't consider it loud at all.

I've been tempted to run the 6000 series on my 360 but I fear they might be too loud on twice as many cubic inches, full length headers and no catalytic converters to boot.
