Hey all I'm new to the forum and before I start launching tech questions around I figured I would get a simple one out of the way. What is a currently running and driving 1966 225ci slant six engine and 904 trans worth nowadays fan to tailshaft? I've been scouring the internet and it seems there arent many running examples on the internet, just "ran good when parked". Would appreciate any help even if it's spitballing, thanks guys.

Might find someone that needs a date coded set if so 500 ish?

over the years i've barley been able to give them away. hell i sold a 25,000 mile one for $50..

I just bought two running. One with complete accessories. ac, alternator and such for $200. The other bare engine $80.

Now I have a 66 trans for free to someone right now also.

Was just curious, had numerous people tell me the 225 slant six running and driving is hard to find. Not looking to make bank off it, just wasn't sure if I should hold onto it should I ever sell my car in the future. If someone wanted to make it original etc.

they are kinda hard to find because everyone rips them out and trashes them when they put a v8 in their car. there is a small following that will buy them i guess. just have to find the right person. try slantsix.org. maybe someone there will want it. doubt they will pay much though and how long do you want to be bothered holding it till it sells?

i put the one i just pulled from our real original 70 dart in the corner. figured its the original motor and it would be good to hold onto.. in reality i after looking at it for a few months i'll probably just trash it. i know i'll never put a slant back in the car. and i really doubt anyone who buys the car if we decide to sell some time down the road will ever put the slant back ii so why even hold onto it? i'm a jackass thats why..lol

I recently paid $150 for a running motor, plus an engine stand. The key thing is, you can only sell it locally -- nobody is going to pay to ship it. So what is demand like in your area? I think it really would help to get in touch with the "target market" -- the slant six club guys. I hooked up with this one through the Barracuda Yahoo group.

What I've noticed is that when you have one, you can't give it away; if you need one, they are nowhere to be found. :)

I have one too and I couldn't get $400 for it and all the accessories that went with it. It's only got 49K miles on it and it runs great despite having sat for who knows how long. I went against the conventional line of thinking (V8 conversion) and used in this project. I don't think I will be sorry.

They would be worth much more if there was an easy turbo conversion kit. Those who have fit a turbo report amazing performance, currently in the 9's in the 1/4 mile (w/o nitrous). Read Charlie's post. I think slant are cool even stock, and I also have a SB & BB, but I'm not a racer and appreciate everything unique - Corvair, VW Bug, 240Z, DeLorean, ...

I traded a running 360 for one, but it is low mileage and has a 4bbl intake and carb on it and at the time I had a plan for it. In terms of "buying" one - scrap prices with a max of $50 would be it. Everyone says keep them, few actually want them, and nobody wants to pay.

I traded a rebuilt 318 for a slant with a trans and it was great for both of us. I also gave a block and a trans away too so...think about a slant. If it was running when pulled, its almost guaranteed to run again. Very stout motors and as smooth as a Singer when you get it set up right.

I gave $150 for 1 last year. But I was desperate and in a hurry. I still tore it completely down to the block and rebuilt it. Damn glad I did too. After I got this one built and in the car, of course several landed at at feet. That's usually the case though.
