So FABO crew,
I've got the 66 Barracuda apart and ready for the rotisserie. The bolt on parts are blasted and most are at the body shop being refinished as I type this.
Inner fender shields:
Mine were not original silver like the car but silver but a rattle can black from the original owner. Possibly why they are still in one piece and not rotted away. What color should they be from the factory? Body color, primer then undercoated, natural?

The ones that cover the door hinges are heavy surfaced rusted and little undercoating and the ones covering the back of the head lights are rattle can black. My car was silver and is going back that color.
Does any one know what was the original finish on the inner fender splash shields for the front fenders?

Thanks,
Joe

I have my 66 Valiant wagon apart at the moment.....

I'll check mine tonight to make sure but I believe that mine are raw and heavily undercoated, both the ones behind the headlights and the ones in front of the doors.

All the ones I've ever seen seem to have possibly been black, and definitely heavily undercoated.

Black and usually undercoated. Mine were blasted, painted black with the new rubber seals installed and now hanging in the rafters waiting for when they need to be installed.

On my 65 Formula S Cuda they were painted black then undercoated. The black paint was factory stock, undercoated afterwords. Hope this helps!

I have removed quite a few splash shields over the years on the early As. The majority were painted black and then undercoated after assembly. I have found some that were obviously installed bare and then got undercoating, but the bare metal ones were the minority.

Here in Finland we have a company caller "Lokari" who has made after market splash shields for car models sold here since 1960´s. First ones were aluminium like ones I bought to my -64 Dart and to modern cars they are plastic. They still have formulas stored to every model they have ever made during over 50 years.

I appreciate all the help in this matter; you people ROCK!
Secondly- I find this whole getting older thing comical. I've owned this 66' since 1989, I've torn stuff off the car and threw it away only to replace it at a way higher cost now.. I've hot rodded this car and only to return it to its factory glory at a higher cost ( even though years ago I thought it was making it glorious by modifying what I believed the factory got wrong). And now I care about what the inner fenders look like when I was younger - it was just useless extra weight.
Amazing what 30 years of perspective can do for a person.
Thanks again for all the help!
Joe
