Not sure what religion you are talking about, but Jesus clarified Gods intent. He was not an "eye for an eye" type of God. More of a 10 Commandments God, summed up in the first 2. "Do unto others" is as close to it as most of us get.

but what i was trying to say is that God gave two different set of rules
one set of rules to be applied on a government level
the other set is to be used at a personal level
the eye for an eye was required for justice but it was not something that individuals should impose
Jesus did not address the government, He addressed individuals, and that is where the golden rule is spoken
to use that in government setting would be misinterpreting the scripture
there are many facets to both God and Jesus and it is important we get a full view of all of them
i'd love to develop this discussion further, but im afraid that would get this whole thread moved to N&P
