Will 14X7 cragers with 4 1/4 backspace fit on the front of my 68 Barracuda 383s with factory sway bar with no suspension modifications? The wheels have no tires as of yet. Thanks ..

I don't see why not. No mods so I'm assuming you're still SBP up front? I ran 225/60/15's on my 15x7 cop rims, which had a 4.25" backspace also. But the BBP brakes have a wider track, so on your car it wouldn't be as tight as it was on my car. 225's should fit fine, 215's would be easy.

Yes still sbp.. are you running a sway bar? Also I have the factory disc with 4 piston calipers. Thanks for the info..

I am but it's aftermarket and the later 73+ style. With that amount of backspace it shouldn't be an issue though, you should have plenty of room to the suspension. It will be closer to the fenders than the suspension.

Ok thanks .. I guess I'll have to pick a tire too if I buy the cragers. . Thanks

No problem!

Picking a tire should be pretty easy, there aren't a lot of choices for 14" rims anymore. It's gonna be a short list.

Try putting them on bare first before going through the trouble of buying and mounting tires on,just in case. I would put the jack stands under the control arms to mimic the suspension under a load and rotate the wheels back and forth.

This is the best way to verify fit for sure.

Damn, 14" wheels....some cars have front rotors that size anymore.

Still not a guarantee the tires will fit. Remember the section width is usually wider than the rims, sometimes more than a 1/2" wider, so, just because the rims clear doesn't mean the tires will. The tire height represents a bunch of clearance issues, corner of the fender during turning, sway bar and frame clearance etc all while the wheel are turned, and just mounting the rims doesn't give a good idea of that.

With the specs on those 14x7's they won't be close to anything as bare rims, just a little set of rims in a giant wheelhouse. Mounting them will only really tell you the center register clears.

I looked up tire section widths and diameters on Tire Rack, and built a cardboard template of the cross section that I used with the bare rim to check clearances. I was checking a set of 14x7 SBP TorqueThrusts with 3.5in. backspace. My conclusion was that 225/60-14 would be the largest tire that would possibly fit on the front of my 67 Barracuda with the K-H 4-piston disks, and I wasn't even sure of that (hard to test full lock and full suspension compression without being able to bounce the car on the suspension). I was hoping to squeeze in 235/60-14s. The problem area was the front lower corner of the fender. Your rims have more back space which would help a lot. My 3.5in backspace is the same as the factory 5.5in rims, so the extra 1.5 inch width is all on the outside, where it sweeps back and forth and potentially interferes with the fender. Basically, you want as much backspace as possible without interfering with the strut rod or sway bar or other fixed components.

Ok thanks guys.. I just want to be sure that the wheels will fit before I drop the money and hopefully a decent tire will mount without any interface. . Thanks again
