I recently bought a 1968 Dodge Dart GT. I have a performance 383 from a 1970 Fury that I'm going to switch out the slant 6 with...

I also have a recently re-built 4 speed manual transmission that I'm going to convert to...

I can use all the help I can get.

Recently, I thought it would be smart to change oil, rotate tires, check brakes. Three months later, all wheel bearing replaced, brakes replaced, and, I had to grid off the studs after drilling off the lugs. What a nightmare! haha

Welcome from the great state of Texas. Post pictures of your adventures.

Welcome from your hood! I live in Pasadena but work in sun valley. Glenoaks and Penrose. Shoot me a pm if you need anything!

That 383, is gonna be a sweet swap, make it work, like you want it to. Best of luck, & welcome from Pismo Beach...

I finally got around to pulling the slant six and (hopefully) throwing in the performance 383 I've painted and updated with an Edelbrock, etc... My question is this: Do you know if the front face plate comes off? I already pulled the hood, radiator, loosened every bolt I can see, but no dice. I want to pull the engine with the trans out the front once that is out. Thanks, Gary.

No need to take the core support off - if that what you mean by front face plate. Here's a pic of me putting my 273 back in my 66 Barracuda.

Yep. The core support is welded in. But doesn't need to come out. Just angle it up and pull it out.

BTW, the big Fall Fling mopar show is just in Van Nuys with tons of mopar only swappers and cars. Great opportunity to get parts, network, and learn a lot.

I did the engine swap by myself and the engine leveler or "tilt" tool was invaluable. To angle the transmission in I nearly had to take the leveler to the stop on one side. Hard to tell from the picture, but I do have jack stands lifting the front of the car to gain more room under the car. Jacks are positioned just to the rear of the front wheels on the frame.

If you have help, a carburetor lift plate can do the trick a little quicker with your helper pushing down and guiding the transmission.

My Harbor Freight Pittsburgh crane won't clear the core support. I have both the engine and the transmission free now. What's the brand of your crane and where can I get one. That's a bummer... :(

You can usually rent an engine hoist at a local equipment rental company. I borrowed the one in my pic from a neighbor. He works at an HVAC company.
