I purchased the Valiant today and it's at the shop. It's a 66 Valiant Signet slanty that is in pretty nice shape. It will need the seats redone and carpet. It runs and drives just fine, no mechanical issues as of yet. Paint is in great shape and bumpers. It also came with the original hub caps and missing trim. It has been in the PO's garage for the past 36 years. I'm pretty excited about doing some upgrades soon.

That car looks awesome! So many different directions you could go with it! Good luck with it!!

Congratulations, doesn't look like it will need a lot to really enjoy driving

Thanks guys. I'm really not sure how I'm going to go with the car. For now I'd like to get the seats done and the carpet, clean it up and clean and paint the trunk. After that, just drive it and think about what I want to do. Either keeping it the way it is and just add a set of wheels and tires or go this way down the road a bit.

Ok,.let me ask you guys what you would do with it? :)

Question,.do they make seat covers for this model? I'm talking about the ones you could get back in the 70's and 80's that you could get at Kmart and Walmart. They came in a box. You remember those?

Yes,.I'm going to stick to the bench seats. I like them. Just need covers for now.
Glad to see I'm not the only one! I think benches are pretty cool. Could try Classic Industries, they might have what you're looking for. Maybe Ebay

What would you guys do with it? Modify it? Leave it alone? Any suggestions?

Looks cool!
When I was younger we had a '66 Signet so Im partial to the look as it came out of the dealer.
It looks really good so I would leave the exterior alone.
I would like front disc brakes which means at least 14" wheels ( looks like it might already have them on) and while you're at it consider putting the large jolt pattern on just because the wheel selection is better. I would put 14" steel wheels with '66 spinner wheel covers ( the last year of fake knock off prongs ).
Then I'd plan on AC sometime ( before we know it it'll be spring ).
Then drive it.

I like bench seats too. And yes, I remember Kmart, Walmart, Western Auto and the such would have a 20 dollar seat cover. Next to impossible to find, even on ebay.

I'd upgrade the brakes using newer stock style parts, clean up/restore the interior to your own liking, redo the stock suspension with an eye for modern handling characteristics, do to the drivetrain whatever fits your intended purpose but I'm a fan of stock style cruising parts.

If possible never take it off the road for an extended length of time. From what I can see the body looks great and body jobs seem to immobilize our cars longer than anything. You have a really nice looking car there and the best piece of advice I could give is "Drive it!"

I like this comment;
"If possible never take it off the road for an extended length of time."

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It has 14" wheels on it. Now the big question. How involved is it to switch it over to 5 on 4 1/2" lug pattern? Parts needed and are they available? I was also thinking of going with 14" Rallye wheels. They do come in 5 on 4" pattern.

I was thinking of going with these. Can anyone tell me if either of these will fit. Also was thinking of going with 7" on the rear and 6" on the front. 14 in. x 6 in., 5 x 4.00 in. Bolt Circle, 4.000 in. Backspace for the front and 14 in. x 7 in., 5 x 4.00 in. Bolt Circle, 4.250 in. Backspace for the rear. What do you think?

Looks like a nice car.
Those wheels should fit fine.
If it was me I'd get the car running and stopping well. Swap the master cylinder for a dual circuit then drive it for awhile. The car will tell you what upgrades it needs.
If you decide to go with front discs, make sure you want to stay with the small bolt pattern before taking the plunge with the wheels. No sense putting a lot into SBP stuff then later on switching to BBP.

I was thinking the same thing. Time to sit back, take a breather and think about it.

Very nice 66. You are way ahead with body and paint thats already in great shape.
If it was me would leave the stock mechanicals and look, repair what is needed then mod the /6 for a little more oomph and enjoy driving her.

Thanks for the compliments. It's really funny that you said "mod the 6". We were taking about it today at the shop, and we are going to turbo charge it using a 2004 Volvo XC90 2.5 Turbo. Produces about 13psi, give or take.
