2016 Sema Mopar Hemi Swap

-
I'm intrigued however the cost is more than the Hotwire setup. I wonder is this is AEM or FAST rebranded again.

Sounds like it is a factory unlocked PCM by the stories I have read. Certainly looks like one in the pictures at least compared to the old AEM setup. I think these are only for VVT motors though, which could be good and bad depending on how you want to look at it. There are getting to be a lot of newer engines out there, so it open up the pool of what you can use as a donor.

Not too outrageous all things considered and it's about time they make it a bit easier for the people who would like to do these swaps.

I want to know more about the rear sump oil pan PN: 77072450

I need the dimensions as it might solve a problem for me.

It would be good if they offered a solution to run the modern transmission as well.

So did anybody come back from SEMA with pictures of the oil pan? The picture of it in the Mopar catalogue is garbage and I can't reference the part number anywhere else to know if it is just a stock piece from some other model or something special.

Oil pan itself is part number 04893207AA.
maybe this picture can help you measure the length based off the bolts... the depth, I'll try to remember to measure it for you sometime soon

Thanks for the update on the oil pan, I was hoping it was something new, it will be way too deep for most car applications, back to the drawing board for me. I'm going to have to either modify one or build one from scratch for what I'm trying to achieve

That new one looks like steel as opposed to aluminum though, so it would at least be easier to modify for people. Could potentially cut the sump to shorten it a bit, though I think center sump is what most A body swaps need.

Yup.. a pan from a ram.
Map is correct!
It is a steel pan, the challenger/charger aluminum oil pan would be more of a pain to fab with.

This pan is made of quiet steel - 2-layer steel with plastic in between. Ask me how I know.
Still could be modified, just more complicate to weld.

I have one of these pans on a 5.7 and it didnt look too deep when I fitted up my K-frame to the engine mounts. Would you like some measurements? I have the engine on a stand at the moment but it is going into a VG convertible.

Yeah thought that part number looked familiar. I have a truck pan with a slight dent on the sump portion. Comes with pickup and other oil pan parts. If someone is in need.

I was pretty shocked to see these are actually valid #'s and showing stock after we attended sema.
When one of you fellas orders one... I'll take all the measurements and pictures you need.lol

Sounds like I lucked out then. I bought a stock replacement from the parts store and cut/welded it to what I wanted. No plastic.

Couple of questions about the wiring harness:

1. Looks like no VSS is needed. Guess that means no options for cruise control, correct?

2. What is the STAR connection, and what is it for?

Really wish it wasn't stripped down quite so much. Really like cruise control and I have no idea how you would make a DBW throttle work with cruise, if the ECM wont do the work.

I believe there are some cruise control options in the aftermarket for DBW... I swear I saw some at SEMA...

2. The STAR connector is really not important for the installer to worry about, it allows communication of the CAN bus between the PCM, DTC(OBDII connector) and the auxiliary CAN blunt ends. (3 connectors total to the STAR, 2 will come plugged in, leave one unplugged to avoid possible noise on the CAN bus from the aux blunt ends)

I hear you about the cruise control! :)

Hmmm...just a quick looks shows something from Dakota Digital for GM's, but didn't look for Mopar stuff. Either way, it does present an idea that I hadn't thought about. I theorized that a PCM would be the only way to control the throttle for CC, but the Dakota Digital setup plugs into the throttle pedal. Makes sense that an add on system could tell the PCM how much throttle, rather than something telling the PCM what speed and PCM determining how much throttle.

Still need a hook up to the brake (and clutch) switches to disengage it, plus a VSS and cruise switch, but those would be needed no matter what.

I suspect the PCM control would be much simpler, but at least it looks do-able now.

Ok, so it is CANbus like I speculated. I understand it isn't useful for expansion, but maybe in the future? :poke:

Last thought....wonder if the MP Stage kits could be made to work with this. :D

Those CAN blunt leads can be used if a user wanted i guess,... without plugging up the OBDII port... maybe things like the autometer air gauges or other dakota digital CAN based gauges.

But as for future speak...

MP stage kits? As in our Mopar Scat Pack stage kits?
