Factory disc brakes on my 66 Valiant

Hi all , Been a little while since I've been on here. So here's what I'm trying to find out. My brake pads in my factory disc brakes rattle around in the caliper. This doesn't seem to me that this is normal. The brakes work just fine but the noise is getting irritating. They are four piston caliper brakes. They load right in to the top of the caliper. Pads look fine. Both sides are the same way. It seems to me some kind of spring clip of some sort should be there so they don't rattle. Been trying to find this damn noise for over a year now. Forgot to take pics. The car is on the lift at my buddies. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Heres the two types of anti rattle clips found on Kelsey Hayes Disc brakes
 
FYI
Those "clips" don't have anything to do with brake pad "rattle"
They are there as pad Retainer clips, to keep the pad in place, from coming up from against the rotor.

Yes, however if they are loose or missing the pads would would have a tendency of flopping up and down. The retainers are there for a reason
 
I think the bigger one in the picture above is what I need. So going to look for a brake hardware kit. It is Kelsey Hayes brakes and that type of clip is not there.

I have previously commented about the differences in the clips, in another members posting in regards to those things.
All that they do is keep the pad from coming up from the caliper, no matter which design is used.
The "big" retainer was used on the 65-66 calipers, wether it was Mopar cars, or early Ford Mustangs.
In 67 Kelsey Hayes started using the "small" retainer clip until 72, the end of the 4 piston caliper.

You don't get those big clips in any "kit"
You can get them from the Ford Mustang restoration shops, vendors, out there in the nation.
And your going to find out they aren't really cheap, either.

Those clips aren't your rattle problem, and you will be throwing your money away, if you go looking for the big pad retainer clips.

Don't know what your problem is, troubleshooting over the computer, instead of in person, i can only give you my two cents worth on the subject.

One thing i will tell you to do is pull the pads up, and see where the end of the pad sets down, on the flat surface of the caliper housing.
If yours have deep divots at each end, they need to go away, by flat fileing the surface flush, from end to end.
The pads need to retract evenly when hydraulic pressure is applied to the pads, and then release when pressure is let off.
If there are deep divots, the pads don't do their thing, properly.

You got all the caliper mounting bolts, to the spindle, tightened down, good and tight?

Yes everything tight. even though the old pads looked ok except for where from bouncing around I installed new pads. They are tighter in there now but still not quite right in my opinion. But the noise is gone now. I will see if it stays that way. Going to drive it a little bit before it goes to storage in the very near future. And will continue to look for the clips in the mean time. i'll find out cast and go from there. Thank you.
 
Well took the car out today. We put some bends on the retainer clips that are there. Much tighter now. drove the car for a couple hours and it is much quieter. No more rattling at least for now. Time will tell. Thanks everyone for your input.
